The low storage space on the C: drive is your most pressing issue atm, solve this and you just may resolve the audio issue as well, in your case this = Windows 7 - McAfee - system drivers and Oculus only.

Support for Windows 7 will end on January 14, 2020 so you still have a further 2+ yrs of updates to come and a 120GB storage device is about as smaller capacity of storage device that is recommended just for Windows, the system drivers and your AV software, anything else should be kept on a separate storage device.

I will clean up the C: Drive and report back! With Steam moved, I now have at the very least 25GB free. How much should I at least have free?

But what do you make of the fact that the HDMI Audio Output is listed after updating the GPU Software, but before the final reboot? It was listed as unplugged and I still had no sound, but at least it was listed.

30GB minimum if you can as you will lose a chunk of it once you have fully updated Windows.

Your MB and your GPU both have HD audio and therefore HD audio drivers are available for both, having both installed can and often does cause conflicts, this is why you should only install drivers for any device that you are using as in if you are using the MBs HD audio chip you should only install the drivers for the Realtek ALC892 audio device, why we often need to do a custom install of GPU drivers is to only install those that we need, not sure how good it is these days but from when I used to use AMD GPUs I remember their CCC (catalyst control centre) software being a pain in the proverbial.

What I would suggest, after fully updating Windows, disconnect the Oculus device, the same for any other device that has audio capabilities, once done connect the bare minimum of speakers to the MBs audio port/s and see if you can get HD audio from that then post back with an update for us.

Edit to add, should have mentioned then connecting the HDMI cable to the screen etc as well if you do get audio from the
MBs integrated sound chip.

I now have 33GB free on C:, and Windows has found the updates. I will install them now.

I am sorry if I ask stupid questions, but how exactly, or where do I connect speakers to my MB? And what kind of speakers should I connect? I only have my TV, I don’t have any separate Speakers.

To clarify, I only ever used my TV with this PC, which I always, until I got the Oculus, connected via a HDMI Cable to the HDMI Port of my PC. Only other device I used for Audio were my headphones I connect via USB.

Should I maybe tell you what options I have for a custom install with the AMD CCC?

No such thing as a stupid question other than ones that don`t get asked.

Wasnt aware that you did not have any separate speakers as Speccy lists the following;

Audio
Sound Cards
Oculus VR Headset
Realtek High Definition Audio
USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0 Device Driver
Playback Devices
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Speakers (4- USB Audio Device): (default)

My edit may have confused things, connect your screen to the MBs HDMI port at the rear of the case.

Not atm, get Windows fully updated (may take a while) and do the MBs HDMI audi chip test first please.

Got to head out for a few hrs but will try and make sure I get back to you later.

Hm, it did always list some speakers under Playback, but no, I don’t have any. I upload a pic of the current devices listed under Playback.

So, Windows got updated. I already had no Sound Device but my TV connected to the HDMI Port, no sound. I then dis- and reconnected my TV, and still no sound. It still isn’t listed anywhere, not Playback and not under Device Manager.

Connect your TV to the R9 video card using the HDMI cable and then do the following for us please (a bit of work to do I`m afraid.)

Disconnect the above device and the the Oculus, we need to try and get video and audio from the TV using its HDMI port and the HDMI port on your video card, if we can do this it is a start, atm we are bit all over the place, too many devices attached etc.

Can you post an updated Speccy url and a list of drivers that are installed for us, see below;

Download DriverView from nirsoft.net

Run DriverView.
Save the results as a Text File.
Copy/paste the info into your next reply for us.

Strange thing is, my headphones are now shown under Playback as Speaker, but I think (not 100% sure, but almost) they were listed as headphones before.

So, now the only Audio capable device connected is my TV via a HDMI Cable to the HDMI Port on the back of my PC case. Still no sound of course.

You still do not have enough free storage space on the C: drive I`m afraid we are fighting a losing battle until the correct amount of space is freed, we are effectively trying to fix one thing when we know for sure that something else is broken.

But atm there are no headphones connected, is this correct.

Just checking but you say “via a HDMI Cable to the HDMI Port on the back of my PC” is the HDMI cable connected to the add on video card and not to the motherboard.

Have you ever downloaded the latest BIOS for your video card.

Have you noticed in Speccy that your Samsung TV is detected and that your default audio device is now shown as - Audio - Realtek High Definition Audio, no mention of AMD which if you should have if the correct drivers are installed and you are connected to the HDMI port on the R9 video card.

Will take me a while to get through the drivers list but will get back to you shortly.

EDIT: Yeah, sorry, the Windows Update used a lot of space, I’ll clear up more now.

Correct, only Audio Capable device is my TV, that with the headphones is just something I saw yesterday which was strange, since as I said, before all this happened it was shown normally as headphones, not speakers in Playback (Manage Audio Devices).

I don’t quite get what you mean “is the HDMI cable connected to the add on video card and not to the motherboard.”, is that a question or a statement? I am not sure, I only ever connected my TV this way. It’s a slot on the back of my PC for HDMI, right next to the slot for Displayport. There is no other HDMI slot/port on my PC.

Yes, I know that my Samsung TV itself is detected, as well as the TV as a Monitor, it’s just not shown anywhere as an Audio Device, something it was before all this happened.

I’ll upload some screenshots to show you what I mean.

Just confirming that HDMI was to HDMI and not HDMI to any other way such as HDMI to any other port via an adaptor.

Not seeing any drivers specific to your video card in your Driver View info, will come back to this shortly.

Notice that your Epson printer being the default has a green tick on it, are you able to select either of the two monitors shown on the top row as the default display.

Oh, sorry, forgot to answer that question. No, I don’t think I ever downloaded the latest BIOS, at least not on purpose. Certainly not in the near past. All I did was updating my GPU over AMD Radeon Settings.

From that menu, I am not able to select either as default.

And no, it is directly from TV over HDMI Cable to HDMI Port, no adapter or anything else, I only ever used an Adapter for Displayport to HDMI so that I can connect my TV via a second HDMI Cable to my PC since I need one HDMI Slot for the Oculus.

To do;

Create a new system restore point.
Download and install the latest BIOS and Windows 7 64-bit drivers from here you only want the display and HD audio drivers and not the CCC drivers, see tutorial here provided courtesy of derekimo (y)
To set up your video card see steps 5 to 12 at the link here

Need to pop out for an hour or so but will be right back asap, meanwhile, good luck (y)
