Thunderbird Mail Import

Greeting everyone. My first post.

Downloaded Thunderbird mail three days ago and have been trying to import mail from Hotmail. I manage just fine until I receive the following message, “Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, User Name or Password”

Am not an expert and tried everything I can find. Help!!!

It would help if you gave the version of Thunderbird you are using.
The only answer we can give you is the same as Thunderbird.
Your username= your Hotmail address
Password = the pw used to log into Hotmail
Go to Settings-bottom left of page
Go to Server settings
Make sure username is set to your Hotmail address. Example: musicguy@hotmail.com.

Also on that page at the bottom left is a setting
Add-ons and themes
Click on that
Try the ImportExportToolsNg and see if that helps.

Yes I know both hotmail and PW.

I should have mentioned that when I signed in to Thunderbird I had no problem getting connected to Yahoo.

So you can send and receive emails in Thunderbird?

Did you setup Hotmail in Thunder as Pop or imap.
If you set it up as a pop account.
Then you have to set your Hotmail account as Pop
Or
Set the account up again as imap

Set Hotmail as imap. I can get Hotmail account from TB, never tried sending.

tried to sign up again and received message “Incoming server already exists” Sorry I’m really sewing this up.

Seems to be working now, not sure why. I will see what happens when I get mail in Hotmail again. Thank you for your help. Much appreciated!!!
