    TAP Windows Adapter V9

I recently reinstalled Windows 11 and after the install my TAP Windows Adapter V9 shows not connected. I have researched this on the web and tried all I can think of but the problem still persists. It prevents connecting to websites when my ProtonVPN app is connected. The VPN connects to all servers but my browsers will not connect to sites. All works fine when the VPN is off. I have tried uninstalling the adapter and uninstall/reinstall the VPN app. Nothing works. Does someone have a solution?

Make sure that the VPN is not on
Have you tried removing it from the device manager
Then reboot and allow they system to reinstall it

    Checked for updates

    Which version are you using

I’m using version 2.3.2. I have tried removing it thru device mgr. and reboot. I get a message β€œadapter missing” but I can see it in network connections. I’m assuming that this adapter not connected is what prevents me from connecting to websites with the VPN on. Could it be something else? ProtonVPN support has been no help.

Was it working before you did the reinstall and how was it preformed?

Did you install the chipset then the drivers in the proper order?

Let’s get a second person to look at this @PeterOz I do not use a VPN that much.

The VPN was working fine before I reinstalled Windows.

I used I/O bit driver booster pro to install the drivers.

None of my browsers connect to websites. However the TOR browser will connect to the internet.

I’m using the built-in Windows 11 protection and nothing else.

I have tried disabling my firewall and that didn’t help.

I would use the drivers from the computer/motherboard website not a 3rd party program.

This is the reason that you are having issues this is crap ware snake oil.

ALWAYS go to the manufactures site to get the proper drivers NEVER use third party software.

Of course they are out-of-date - time moves on. There are a number of credible driver updating programs available. My Avast AV has just said that my drivers need updating. A ploy to buy their program and wreck my PC.   Since Windows includes drivers in their updates (it has updated 12 so far on my PC), I see no saf...

Best thing to do is complete wipe and reinstall.
USING the proper and correct diver install in the proper order.

                        I ran the following CMD’s
                        ipconfig /release
                        ipconfig /flushdns
                        ipconfig /renew
                        netsh winsock reset
                        netsh interface ipv4 reset
                        netsh interface ipv6 reset

turned on ProtonVPN and I was able to connect to one site. I tried other sites and none would connect. I went back to the site that connected before and it would not connect.

I repeated the procedure above and received the same result. One site connected only one time.

                          Hello,

What protocol are you using with ProtonVPN?

I’m an avid VPN user and have used all major VPN providers including ProtonVPN.

I am using the β€œsmart” protocol. But I have tried them all with the same result.

Have you tried doing a modem reboot to get a new IP address? Sometimes ISP’s will block VPN protocols as a form of censorship
