The Pc’s operating system is windows XP and I have been working on this computer for about a month. I took it apart, cleaned it out and it runs quite a bit smoother. There is only issue with it, which was an issue when I first started working on it. The USB ports are not working. When I go to plug in anything that uses a USB the computer recognizes that there is something plugged in, but it doesn’t work. For example, when I plug in a mouse it will recognize it but the cursor won’t move and the mouse doesn’t work. I know a lot about computers, bit this one has stumped me.

Maybe it’s the voltage regulator for the usb ports that has failed. Have you tried the ps/2 port,with supported mouse?

Yes I have tried that port and it does not work either, but the port for the keyboard in the back works perfectly fine.Originally posted by vgerComment

Have you tried installing the latest chipset drivers for that motherboard? Have you tried reseating the front panel connectors that connect from the case to the motherboard?Comment

I reseated the connectors and now it is deciding to have another issue. The tower is running, but it is not going anywhere on the monitor. I have posted a photo of it.Comment

That looks like video corruption. Are you using an integrated video adapter or a dedicated video card in the tower? Have you updated the desktop’s BIOS to the latest version?Comment
