Thanks for the reply. I thought it was suspicious that they wanted me to pay. I will try again to download it. As for removing/reinstalling chrome, I think my email contacts would disappear if I remove chrome. It sees to be part of chrome?

the email contacts will live in whatever email client you use.
so for example, if you are with provider ABC and use their webmail system, that is where the contacts, and all your emails, will live.
that is why you can see all your previous Sent, Deleted etc no matter what PC or location you use.
don’t forget, if Chrome just won’t play nice, there are many other good browsers to use: Firefox, Opera, PaleMoon, SlimJet, just to pick the few I have used over the years.Comment

Rustys, you have been most kind and helpful. Thanks. I did manage to get signed up on skype, password and all. But when I sign in on skype I get a message " There are problems with your Microsoft account. To fix this, sign in to account.live.com from a browser". Another problem, which I think is related to this, is when I click on chrome, I get a message "server error in ‘/’ Application, with a very complicated bunch of steps to fix it. First step is to get to the chrome root directory which I can’t seem to find. I think this problem may be the cause of the one I mentioned above. When I went to the account.live.com site it led me through a bunch of steps that led nowhere. I’m clearly in over my head here. I know one of my sons could take care of all this but he is in another state and can’t come here because of the pandemic.Comment

Have you tried a different Browser to access the site since Chrome is still giving you issues like @Bruce suggested?
From the sounds of it Chrome is corrupt and need to reset and or uninstalled and reinstalled.

Yes, Using my Avg browser, I managed to create another account on skype using another email address I have. (ATT.net instead of gmail). It works. As for the google chrome browser, I went to the google site and can use the google browser from there, as oppose to the google browser inherent in my computer. Still whaling away at trying to fix my google browser but I have these work around schemes to get around it. Thanks.Comment

OK - I’m confused. (and yeah, sometimes that isn’t too hard to do)
I thought we got rid of AVG Browser many posts ago.
if not - do so now - it’s rubbish.
and the Google website IS the Google browser. your 'google browser inherent in my computer ’ should simply take you to www.google.com
if that is a link on your desktop, delete that too.
if you have bookmarks in Chrome or AVG Browser, export them to a HTML file.
now uninstall Chrome and delete this folder: C:\Users{your profile name}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
that will remove all your Chrome history - ALL of it - passwords, bookmarks, surf history, filled out forms, Chrome settings, extensions etc.
now download the latest from here; Google Chrome - The Fast & Secure Web Browser Built to be Yours
go to where it was saved, double click to install it.
once installed, import your saved bookmarks.
if that doesn’t fix your Chrome issue - ditch it too - life is too short.
download and use Firefox.Comment

Thanks, Bruce. Sounds like you are a real techie. But I will leave well enough alone for now at least. Everytime I make changes I get in trouble, even though I’m sure your suggestions are good. Any more bad stuff with this computer and it goes out the window!Comment

I was trying to export the favorites list but my favorites list doesn’t have an export choice. So I surfed around trying to find out how to do that when, viola, I clicked on chrome and it came up fine! Don’t know what caused it but Ill take it. Guess God was shining down on me. So all is fine now . Thanks.Comment
