    Windows 10 Flight Mode

Hi! I hoping that someone can help with my flight mode problem. I have a PC running Windows 10. It had been working with no problems about a month ago, when I had to move it and store it temporarily. A week ago I set it up again and since then it has not been able to detect my wireless router (or any other routers in the area) and this appears to be because it is stuck in flight mode. Occasionally flight mode icon appears when I click on the Network option on my homescreen, but if it does appear it is either greyed out or nothing happens when I click it. In the Network and Connections section of settings there is no option for flight mode or wireless. My wireless adapter does not appear in the list of Network devices in the Devices page. The router is working fine, my tablet and mobile connect without problem. I have managed to connect via ethernet, but this is a temporary solution. To date I have tried:

Keyboard shortcuts (there is no appropriate icon on any of my keyboards, but I have tried various key combinations anyway)
    Resetting the network
    Re-installing wi-fi adapter
    Flushing DNS etc
Trying every setting of Radio Management
    Restarting computer and router
    Restoring PC to factory state

Essentially, all of the potential fixes that come up from an internet search I’ve tried and nothing has worked. There is also the question of why a desktop PC needs a flight mode, but that’s another issue. Any help or suggestions that anyone can offer would be brilliant, thank you!

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hi Pandora H, I am running win 10 Computer (see photo below). If you look at bottom right of your screen, you will see the internet connection icon (circled in red), see CLICK. so click that and a window above opens and shows all the available wi-fi around you. You also see three choice boxes, wi-fi, flight mode, mobile hotspot, so click on wi-fi box. Then select your wi-fi from above.

As for flight mode you are correct you would not use it in your house, but if you have a mobile device with win10 and going on a plane, then you would use it. Hope this helps, cheers colin.

Hi Colin, thank you! Unfortunately those options don’t appear when I click the internet connection icon, I don’t see the available wi-fi around me and I don’t see the Wi-fi or Hotspot icons. I do sometimes see the Flight option, but it is either greyed out or white and nothing happens when I click it.

Thank you. Unfortunately neither Airplane nor Wifi options appear in the Network and Internet section. I’m going to try the advice about downloading Speccy and let you know how that goes. Thank you!

What is the make and model of the Wi-Fi adapter and how does it connect to the system.

Have you tried using the USB adapter on another system could be that the device has died.

It was connected when you ran the speccy correct.

I’m currently using ethernet connection and the router is working fine with my tablet and mobile, both of which are able to detect other wifi routers in the area as normal.

Not surprised that you are still having issues, as you mentioned Windows is a recent install but after the install there is only evidence of one driver having been installed and that was for the LAN port

I had previously uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless adapter/driver, and these were installed when the problems began, but when installed, I couldn’t get the PC to recognise it. I’ve been trying different combinations since then to see what works, but I’m thinking I still ought to be able to deactivate flight mode separately to the Wifi issue.

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers, then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the other hardware, no chipset drivers = a motherboard that cannot communicate with other hardware and especially not third party components such as wireless adapters etc.
