Virgin Media's Hub 3, Hub 4 and Hub 5 give customers fantastic WiFi connections all year round. Thinking of upgrading your existing router? Learn more here.
I did try to test the ethernet connection to the Xbox last night, to see if it connects, but the problem is that by default the Xbox will just use WiFi if it doesnβt establish a wired connection. So when I connected the ethernet cable to the Xbox, it was able to get onto the Internet, but I canβt be sure if it was connecting to the Internet via the ethernet cable, or it was just reverting to WiFi. Itβs really difficult to explain what I mean but hopefully that makes sense. basically there seems to be no way to check on the Xbox if itβs using the ethernet or whether itβs just using WiFi. I think the only way I could be certain is to get the Xbox to forget my WiFi password, but I canβt find a way to get it to forget the password.
Also when you looked at the ip address for the xbox (instructions post 11)
You have given the ip and the dns.
Does the xbox show the subnet and the gateway numbers.
If yes what are they.

If the xbox is connected by cable are you able to use that connection to test pc.
No t buy swapping cables both ends.
Leave xbox connected to router.
Disconnect cable at xbox and plug into computer.
reboot computer
Iβve been able to delete the WiFi connection off my xbox so have been able to test if it works solely by ethernet and it recognises that thereβs a wired connection but states
Wired ipv4
Nat type unavailable
Service info unavailable
Can you unplug all connections to the router.
Turn the router off and unplug the power cord for at least 5 minutes.
Turn router back on and wait for lights to show you have internet connection on the router.
Plug the pc only in to a port on the router.
Test.

unplugging everything didnβt work but finally virgin have sent me a replacement router and everything is working. christ knows why but it seems to be that the old router was blocking ethernet connections. wish Iβd known that sooner before having to take 4 days off work.
cheers for your help in trying to get to the bottom of it. now to get some physio for my right shoulder after so much reaching around the back of the PC with bloody ethernet cables
