    Hello,

Iโ€™m a bit busy today so my next response will be tomorrow probably. If you donโ€™t mind entering cmd prompt again, and type โ€˜net userโ€™ then type โ€˜net user administrator /active:yesโ€™ or whatever the administrator account is that is listed under โ€˜net userโ€™. Then try โ€˜chkdsk /rโ€™. It should include functionality of chkdsk /f as well.

So far 0 bad sectors is good, but it is showing a very low amount of disk space and I believe it might because it requires admin status. The message you are getting about the drive being locked is likely due to admin status not being enabled.

I also missed that this is a laptop, I donโ€™t do laptop repairs but knowing laptop manufacturers, they make accessing the motherboard pretty tough, and everything is condensed on top of that.

If disk shows 0 bad sectors then drive is probably good. I would think it is likely a malware issue. In which case disable secure boot in BIOS and if that doesnโ€™t work, reinstall windows. I think you can still get the license key from a corrupt version of windows

As all the photos state the drive is locked then this can indicate the drive has failed & locked the drive to prevent further problems.
I would recommend downloading Macrium Reflect free, creating their boot USB & boot the problem PC with this & create an image of the drive immediately.
Macrium Reflect - Incredibly powerful software that allows you to create and schedule effective backups

I believe Bastet is right. I tried running chkdsk without admin permission and it gives a different error. Plus after doing some more research, it looks like the write protected error message may imply that the drive has been corrupted if you have not modified it any way recently.

Yes, the locked drive is usually an indication the drive has serious problems. This happens with USB drives too.

You would have to download Macrium on another PC so yes.
If you could access troubleshoot menu by force restarting the pc 3 times then you could run chkdsk but I doubt this will be possible.

Disk read error does point towards a drive failure. I would cease using the PC until youโ€™ve installed Macrium on another PC & created their boot media to recover the OS, files & apps. Any further use of the PC may damage the drive to the point the files cannot be recovered.

Hi Guys You wont believe this but I had a late Christmas present yesterday afternoon.
As I was attempting to get more photos for you of the various states of the screen.

There was a sudden flash on the screen, then it all went black followed by a screen which read. "

MICROSOFT:This PC requires resetting, LEAVE it to us ,would you prefer Cloud reset or reset from your own PC. (I thought attempting to use my PC was pushing it so opted for CLOUD)..after my choice, the screen then read "SIT BACK LEAVE IT TO US BE PATIENT IT WLL TAKE TIME: Keeping all my old data and favourites it took four hours, but I have now ended up with a far superior WIN 10 than I had, plus its faster, fully up to date, with all the old rubbish removed. Its like having a new PC again. I might add I did nothing to obtain tht original on screen message, it just happened.(My PC angel must be looing over my shoulder)
So I thank you both Bastet and DENMON for your help and patience, if it wasnโ€™t for folks like yourself a great many people would be pulling their hair out! So thanks again Happy and healthy new year to you both.
This message by the way is being typed on my โ€œnewโ€ desk top!!!
