On the left hand side scroll down to generic.
On the right hand side Pick Generic/text only click on next and finish.
This should get you printing for now.
I will look for improving this later on today for you
I never got a notification of this message from you or the following, I was just rereading all when I came upon this. I will definitely try this! TYVM!!!

Did you try cleanly uninstalling & deleting the driver, then installing the Win 8 driver using compatibility mode?

No I did not. I’m in the middle of moving out of state & unfortunately the disc for the printer is now out of state. I don’t know if there is a reputible online install available.

You can visit the Lexmark website for the printer & download them from there:
            Win 8 64bit: http://support.lexmark.com/index?pag...endedSegmentOS

and downgrading the whole PC back to Win8 just to get an old printer to work would seem counter-productive to me!
you’d have to load the whole OS from scratch then all your required software and restore your personal files.
then tweak all your settings: desktop, screen saver, power saving settings, bookmarks, menu bars, passwords, peripheral drivers etc.

but hey - it’s not my PC or my problem to remedy. whatever rocks your boat.

Win8.1 mainstream support ended in Jan 2018 with extended support ending in Jan 2023, so you’ll be downgrading to a soon-to-be OS without security updates and vulnerability patches being released and all that jazz.

              and Win8 is long dead!
