windows 10 wiped out my lexmark printer

Went to print out my word document & nothing happened. I checked my cartridges n all was good. Ran a print check n that worked fine. Called my computer geek & she worked on it all day & said my printer driver is out of date & not compatible w/Windows 10. Working w/Windows 10 has been extremely difficult for me because I find it very difficult to work with & everytime it updates it messes up my printer, this time apparently for good. I hope I am wrong & remembered that on here years ago I found the help I needed, so I hope that happens again. Thank you to anyone that can provide any help!

What’s the full make & model of the printer?
Is Windows 10 up to date? There were several cumulative updates which broke printers but these have been fixed so check for any optional updates.

that printer is discontinued with no dedicated drivers for Win10.
you could try the Win7 or 8 64bit drivers on the Lexmark website but there’s no guarantee.

if you’re lucky, Win10 may have a native driver for it but full functionality may not be offered.
uninstall any Lexmark software and try adding a new printer from Devices & Printers in Control Panel and see if Windows detects and installs the best driver it deems worthy.

If the test print worked then there’s no problems with the drivers.
You could try reinstalling the driver using compatibility mode.
Ensure you have installed KB5001649 update.

Well there must be a way because Lexmark just answered my call & he said there is a way it can be reconnected but there is a $79.00 charge & i can’t afford that soo guess I’m stuck.

Have you run the Printer troubleshooter?

If it still doesn’t work then the device is no longer compatible.

Yes I did run it & it still didn’t work. But if Lexmark can make it work, why can’t I find a way to make it work? What will they do that I can’t?

They may remove the driver & then reinstall it using Windows 8 compatibility settings.
They may also be saying they can help just to get your money.

                        Try this
Go to control panel > Devices and printers Right click on the printer Left click on printer properties
                        Click on advanced tab>New driver>Next
On the left hand side scroll down to generic.
On the right hand side Pick Generic/text only click on next and finish.
This should get you printing for now.
I will look for improving this later on today for you

no - any USB port will do.
