Just built a brand new comp the other day. Everything works fine except that i get random freezing. It not a complete freeze either. It kind of takes its time once it starts. I am able to use whatever programs i have opened at the time but with limited use. I am not able to restart or open other programs. Eventually it freezes completely. any idea what that could be?
PC Specs:
Asus Strix B550-F
Ryzen 9 5900x
MSI 1070
Nzxt 63 240MM AIO
G. Skill c16 3600 RAM
Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB
EVGA 850 PSU
Fractal Define 7 Case
Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.
To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
What are the programs that are freezing, are they online programs etc.
What is the exact model of PSU that you have, how old is it and likewise how old is the GPU
Some strange goings on according to Speccy and especially with the CPU and Windows updates
Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 2020-12-03 12:21:15 AM
After installing Windows, did you then install the drivers for the MB and starting with the chipset drivers first, these drivers need to be installed from the disk provided with the MB or direct from here
Antivirus
Total AV
Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
Windows Defender
Antivirus: Disabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
Running: Windows Defender Firewall
Is Total AV the free or paid for version, ether way it is not very good and you would have been better sticking with Windows Defender, it also looks like it could be conflicting with Windows own Firewall.
Memory
Type: Unknown
Size: 32768 MBytes
Channels #: Dual
DRAM Frequency: 1064.5 MHz This needs to read as 1600MHz in Speccy.
Your RAM is running too slow for the CPU, manually set it to run at 3200MHz in the BIOS, you could try enabling XMP but if the RAM gets clocked to 3600MHz it could be too much the other way.

It doesnβt matter what is open when its freezes. Literally anything I have open at the time will freeze at some point. Iβve even tried just leaving windows open and nothing else. Eventually still freezes
My PSU is an EVGA 850 B5
The Motherboard driver was installed by Memory Express for me. When i bought it from them, they said it needed an update to be able to support my 5900x.
Total AV Its the paid version. I have no idea why i bought it? It was a deal one day i think? Do you think i should just disable it and use windows defender? what other Anti virus would you recommend instead?
I set my Ram to 3200 in BIOS. Ill see if that does anything. Before i did a reinstall of windows the first time, i do know i had them set to 3600 and it was still doing the freezing thing.
Most likely not a PSU issue then. (Information only) please note that while is sounds great to have an 850W PSU it would have been more appropriate for your spec of build to have opted for a minimum of a Gold efficiency rated PSU that was covered by at least a seven year warranty but preferably one covered for ten, you having a second screen hooked up makes this even more important.

Sorry but need to query this:
Who assembled the computer, this includes inserting the CPU into the socket and fitting the CPU cooler etc.
Who installed Windows.
We will come back to the other points in your reply #5 once we have addressed the two questions above.

You mentioned MB driver instead of BIOS update + the version of BIOS in Speccy is months old and therefore was not the one that should have been used, Version 1202 should have been used and even this has been superseded now by Version 1401 which among its fixes is βNew CPU supportβ download from here
