My PC became very slow after I accidentally downloaded a virus

A few days ago I downloaded a program called โ€œrestoroโ€ on my pc, which was instantly detected as a โ€œtrojan.multi.brosubsc.genโ€ virus by kaspersky. In orded to get it deleted I had to restart my pc. I ran multiple scans using kaspersky and malwarebytes afterwards and they didnโ€™t detect anything bad. My problem is that my pc became significantly slower ever since I restarted my pc to delete the virus. I tried restoring it to factory settings, but that didnโ€™t help. Any advice on what i should do to fix it/ is fixing it even possible?

Iโ€™m using a Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH-PG0 laptop, which Iโ€™ve had for 6 months.
    Specs:
    INTEL CORE I5-9300H 2.40Ghz
    RAM:8gb
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 4GB VRAM

We can take a look for you but it is possible that we may need to move your thread over to malware removal.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Speccy not showing much but there are a couple of things.

A notebook that has a discrete GPU needs to have the Windows Power Plan set to High Performance else the discrete GPU will not get enough power to be able to work and the notebook will revert back to using the video provided by the CPU.

Next thing is a double edged sword as it concerns high temperatures and namely the CPU, it could be hotter than it should be because it is also providing the video atm, check the temps once you have changed the Power Plan to see if using the discrete GPU drops the CPU temps.

Try and get Windows fully up to date as soon as you can but only as far as update version 1909 as the 2004 is causing people lots of problems so wait until it gets fixed.

Will leave it at that for now.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as I have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed, thanks.

I updated windows to 1909 and changed the power plan to High Performance, and the cpu temps dropped down to a steady 48-50ยฐ C. The performance is slighly better, but still far worse than what it used to be a few days ago

Only other thing in Speccy was the McAfee rubbish, there is absolutely no need for it when running Windows 10 as Defender is more than capable + it doesnโ€™t hog resources or cause conflicts.

What are you judging performance on, gaming, browsing or office type work.

Were any previous AV tools that you used properly uninstalled, orphaned files can cause all sorts of problems.

I judge performance on gaming, I get 30-40 fps in games that I used to have a steady 60 fps in, but in some of the games I see almost no difference at all.
As for the AVโ€™s: Before i restored my pc to factory settings I was using kaspersky, mcafee installed itself with the restore.
I also noticed that Iโ€™m unable to scan my pc using windows defender, when i click the quick scan nothing happens. Advanced and offilne scan donโ€™t work too.

Are the games online or offline or a mixture of both, online games for example will suffer from internet problems whereas offline games will not, the more information that you provide the better and hopefully the quicker we will be able to help you get this sorted.

That is because you have McAfee running and therefore perfectly normal.

I mostly play offline games. The only online game I play is League Of Legends, but there was no change in performance in that game. I noticed that my pc started having problems with loading textures in time in some of the games with better graphics .There is also another I forgot to mention:
Recently the geforce experience app started to show a notification that there โ€œIsnโ€™t enough RAM memory to keep a steady refresh rateโ€ while playing some of the games.

Problems with refresh rates can be caused by a couple of things, drivers, settings, not having dual channel RAM and/or a combination of two or all three.

Deal with what you can first which is to get rid of McAfee, this will hopefully free up some resources.

McAfee product removal tool (MCPR) here

Once McAfee has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

I deleted McAfee, enabled Windows Defender and run a full scan that didnโ€™t detect any threats. What should I do next?

We were not looking for any threats only making sure that your system was protected.

Should have also said, before posting back restart the computer and see if getting rid of McAfee had helped any.

Can you post an updated Speccy url and let us know if your RAM is a single 8GB stick or two 4GB sticks.

I didnโ€™t really notice any difference after deleting McAfee.
                          Im using one 8gb stick

Your English beats my Polish hands down but the above does not look like it says High Performance to me, please correct me if I am wrong.

Found a thread on the Lenovo forums which has the same MB as you have, the info there says the below, see thread here

                            Memory DR4-2133 MHz,SODIMM ร— 1, On Board ร— 1 (max 16 GB)

It has a soldered onboard ram with 4GB and available slot for upgrades.

If you have a single 8GB stick + a 4GB stick that is non removable you should be seeing 12 and not 8GB of RAM.[/COLOR]

โ€œMรณj plan niestandardowy 1โ€ is just the name of the custom power plan I created and set to high performance because there was only the balanced option available in power settings.
I donโ€™t really know anything about that 4gb non-removable RAM stick.
I checked it in the CPU-Z app, and it only shows the 8gb stick in slot 1, and an empty slot 2.
