Runtimebroker application error

I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this - if not I’d appreciate if someone can direct me to the appropriate one. I’m getting an error similar to the following, my computer has slowed significantly, and it does some strange things (e.g. goes in and out of “night mode”).

The instruction at “0x???” reference memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.

Any advice on where to start troubleshooting this?

Do you get any BSODs?

Does this happen randomly or only on certain applications?

No BSOD, but occasional flicker to black. I rebooted for a fourth time and everything seems to be normal now. It happened when first booting up computer.

What were you using the computer for when this happened, loading a program or game etc.

How many times has this happened exactly.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

Had just finished watching a video on youtube and closed Chrome when the message popped up. I rebooted twice and it was still there both times, so shutdown the computer. That was in the morning - after work when I rebooted it was there again. That’s when I started the thread. Then I rebooted once more and it went away and it hasn’t come back.

It’s a Dell XPS 13 9360 laptop.

Part of those symptoms could have been Windows installing updates but the error you mention would not normally happen when closing programs, quite the opposite in fact it would normally be when you were trying to launch a program or game etc

All we can do for now is see how it goes for a few days, if we don`t hear back from you one of us will ask you for an update around Thursday.
