No Video or Audio

Hi
I got a second-hand laptop for Christmas and it was pretty good, but suddenly started lagging on any videos, facebook or youtube and then the audio is not working either. For the audio, I went to troubleshooting and followed instructions (something about enhancements) and it worked for a while, then started again loading and playing the videos very slowly, then again no video at all and no audio, can you help? This happens in Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Thanks
