It may not be important but then again it may be.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Spotted problems in Speccy but assistance works both ways, if you are not willing to or cannot answer any questions that are asked you only have to let us know, I will offer nothing further until we know what you mean by β€œI checked bios usb active.”

When i was reading up on the problem it was suggested to check the BIOS to be sure that usb was active so i checked it and it was, no settings in the bios were changed when I closed out. I do appreciate your assistance. In the interum I have been shuting the pc down when I’m not using it. I usually leave the machine on all the time, I don’t like turning it off and on.

This is a perfect example of why you should not follow the guidance of more than one forum or try things not suggested by someone trying to help you.

The BIOS has nothing to do with the chassis power button and being a Dell MB the BIOS will have very limited options, for example, were you aware that for years the USB ports on Dell MBs were disabled by default during boot and that on some of their boards the only USB that could be used when troubleshooting was USB port 1, came across so many people being caught out by it that I did an attachment, see below

It is in the Windows 10 Power Plan that you should configure the settings for what the keyboard does, see Dell info here

            Nothing to do with the power issues but the following from your reply #15;

We can see in Speccy that apart from Windows Defender (which is all that you need in Windows 10) you also have MBAM and McAfee AV installed on your computer, not only will this cause all sorts of stability issues it can also leave you with no AV protection if they cancel each other out.

Are any of your AV products the paid for versions.

            Windows Defender
            Windows Defender: Enabled
            Firewall
            Firewall: Enabled
            Display Name: McAfee Firewall
            Antivirus
            Windows Defender
            Antivirus: Disabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
            Malwarebytes
            Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
            McAfee VirusScan
            Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

You have irregular voltage readings showing in Speccy, the high +12V reading could be responsible for the chassis power button behaving the way that it is. the other readings not highlighted in red could be anomalous but they too are also not what they should be.

            Voltage
            +12V: 12.983 V
            CPU CORE: 1.500 V
            VIN3: 1.644 V
            VIN4: 0.924 V
            +3.3V: 2.248 V
            VIN6: 1.800 V
            VIN7: 1.668 V

Defender and malware bytes are now turned off, McAfee and malware bytes are paid for. Key board connected to usb 1as suggested.

Defender is ok as it disables itself when it detects another AV program but MBAM needs to be completely uninstalled, check Speccy and you will see that the three AVs are all up to date, how can they be up to date if they have not been running at some point?

                  Uninstall MBAM using MBAM Clean

                  Windows Defender
                  Windows Defender: Enabled
                  Firewall
                  Firewall: Enabled
                  Display Name: McAfee Firewall
                  Antivirus
                  Windows Defender
                  Antivirus: Disabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
                  Malwarebytes
                  Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date
                  McAfee VirusScan
                  Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

Edit to add: Your email reply only said β€œDefender is off McAfee is paid for” as MBAM is also a paid for product I would keep that and get rid of McAfee, this because MBAM also has the on demand scanner.

MCPR tool for getting rid of McAfee download from here you could try getting your money back but being honest neither MBAM or McAfeee are obliged to as there is nothing wrong with their product/s.

Good morning, The Dell is still shutting down when I wake it up from sleep. All McAfee is removed. Do you have any other thoughts on what may be causing this? I appreciate your help. Donations in order.
I’m about ready to reinstall windows 10

                        Hello mnisia,

Apologies for the delay, having my own computer problems atm and unfortunately it may need to be a new purchase as a Windows 10 update has left me with a boot loop and no USB ports and DVD drive working, will get back to you asap.

                            Hello mnisia,

Not sure that reinstalling Windows would help tbh as it has nothing to do with how sensitive the power on button is.

Just happen to be downloading Windows 10 to my problem notebook atm and hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the day or tomorrow sometime.

From what I’m reading on-line about this problem it seems prevalent. I don’t know if I agree with the power button idea because using the key board its doing the same thing

Windows 10 shuts down after going into sleep mode - Microsoft Q&A

I have had the exact same problem with the exact same computer: a Dell XPS 9100 desktop. It started after a Windows 10 update on 12/20/17. The computer turns off instead of sleeping when it reaches the time for sleep based on the Power and Sleep settings. If I manually put it to sleep using the button in the Start menu, it will go into sleep mode, but when I try to wake it up by clicking the mouse it then turns itself off.

I tried starting in Safe Mode as you suggested to the other person, but couldn’t find a sleep option to test.

My solution has been to set Sleep to β€œNever”, which prevents it from shutting down, but I don’t like having to keep it constantly powered up.

If it helps, the updates on 12/20/17 are KB4058043, KB4054517, and KB4053577.

                              Thank you for your help.

                              Robert
