Dell Studio xps desktop shuts down from sleep mode

Hi, When the Dell goes into sleep mode and I press the power button to wake it up it shuts down instead of turning back on.

    Hello mnisia,

Has this started happening since a recent Windows 10 update.

The chassis power button normally needs to be held down for four or five seconds before turning off the computer so it looks like the button options may have been changed somehow.

Using a notebook at the moment but the options are very similar, take a look at my two attachments below for how to check your power button settings.

It’s still doing the same thing. Very concerned hard booting all time. I checked bios usb active. Changed power button setttings. I thought I had replied earlier that indeed this began after a big windows update. Any help appreciated. Thank you

There are many variations of your XPS computer, can you take a look at the list here and when you find your model post the info in your next reply for us.

If the XPS 8100, there are no Windows 10 drivers for the computer so this could be a compatibility issue.

Question, why are you not using the keyboard to wake up the computer.

Thats almost as if the settings have been reversed, most odd.

Have you got a system restore point that is before the problem first started.

See if following the steps at option 2 here helps with waking the computer using the keyboard,

Did you open the command prompt with Admin Privileges?
Some commands require the to be ran under the Admin Command prompt to work properly.

You need to consider the possibility that you have a faulty power button, it really should not be so sensitive, this one of the reasons that OEM computer should not be allowed to cheap out by not having a separate reset button.

Can you also answer the above for us.

Have you checked for a system restore point that is before this first happened, if no, check and if you have one try using it, if the problem is the same after that you are looking at a flaky power button.

Thanks for the additional support Russ (y)
