    Stopping the Win10 download nagging

Thanks for the help on the previous problem, I now have a different download issue that I was hoping someone knew how to fix.

A bit of history first; this paragraph can probably be skipped if desired. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 graphics board, and I enjoy the Dragon Age series of games. Iโ€™ve not played those games for quite a while now and so went back to them recently for nostalgia reasons etc.. But when I got to DA:I I find the old trouble remains. There is clearly an error with NVIDIA graphics board/software as one experiences the game, and sometimes the whole PC crashing out every five minutes. (DirectX function โ€œGetDeviceRemovedReasonโ€ failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG (โ€œThe applicationโ€™s device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application, This is an (sic) design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed.โ€). GPU: โ€œNVIDIA GeForce GTX 470โ€, Driver 37653. But of course Iโ€™m using the latest NVIDIA drivers and have been since updating from WIN7 to WIN10. NVIDIA are well aware of the issue (check the Net for years of questions/complaints) and clearly donโ€™t give a darn about their customers as they still have not fixed the issue. In the past I deliberately loaded older drivers which means the crashes were every hour or two instead; which was bearable. So I installed version 340.52 and sure enough things are bearable, if hardly ideal.

Trouble is now, WIN10 with itโ€™s interfering control freakery is continually trying to get me to download the latest NVIDIA driver which is something I need like a hole in the head. Given that NVIDIA doesnโ€™t care, and Microsoft hasnโ€™t the ability to be swayed from controlling peopleโ€™s private PCs, how do I get WIN10 to ignore the graphics driver version and stop continually telling me that there is an update to download/install ?

    Thanks.

    Hello
Do you have Nvidia Experience installed? If so you can un-install that and it should stop those pop ups from Nvidia.

You will however have to check manually and install manually any updated drivers.

Thanks but it is Windows telling me there is an update available, not NVIDIA. It tells me, I go in and the usual Windows 10 update page is there showing the NVIDIA driver. I used to have Experience installed but when I tried to use it recently it said there was an update. I tried to update it and it started asked me to log in using Twitter or Facebook or NVIDIA and I decided I didnโ€™t need to do that so uninstalled it. I really ought to save up for a decent non-NVIDIA board really but not exactly flash with cash at present.

I see it has now been accompanied by other Windows updates, so this time I guess Iโ€™ll end up downloading the new drivers and then having to change them back later. I hope to avoid that in the future though if the drivers can be removed from the Windows update nag.

(By the way, it seems as if GeForce Experience hasnโ€™t uninstalled, I seem to recall some kind of error message when it was supposed to. I assume it doesnโ€™t interfere with the Windows 10 update but worth noticing itโ€™s still there. But if you try to open it, then it states that it has encountered an error and must close.) (But interestingly it doesnโ€™t close once one oks the warning !)

Ah.. yeah; I know it is a different question but Iโ€™ll ask it anyway. How does one get permanently rid of that one drive login pop-up ? Iโ€™ve no desire to put personal data etc. on the Net. I donโ€™t want to keep closing the nag.

Without a suggested solution, no. Unless anyone is interested in that I have had to install about 3 MS updates recently and every one came with the NVIDIA drivers and so three times I had to put the old drivers back on afterwards. Itโ€™s a real pain in the neck.

                          Hi folks

Give DDU a try Slytod, download from here

There is a function that allows you to stop such unwanted updates being forced upon you.

I would suggest that you keep a folder on your desktop with the present stable drivers saved in it and create your own system restore point before you start.

                          Edit to add screenshot

Iโ€™ve had such a folder for quite some time now.
I may try DDU but if I recall correctly that is simply an uninstaller is it not ? The issue is the Windows Settings/Windows Update always including the NVIDIA drivers. Itโ€™s that, that needs nobbling really.

You can hide the offending update, just like in the days of old.

                              Get this:
                              wushowhide.diagcab file from the KB3073930
Windows Update: FAQ - Microsoft Support

                              Read this:
How to Uninstall and Block Updates and Drivers on Windows 10

                              And this:
Microsoft released a tool earlier this month that allows you to block updates from being installed on Windows 10 machines.

The HowToGeek makes one mistake. Remove the check mark.
