Just a quick feedback to sat that Microsoft has just made out I have a NVIDIA driver update again. Thought I was past that bit

Not got around to looking further at this yet; hopefully today. But …

I really don’t want to go through another round of download/install/DDU/reinstall older driver, yet MS is nagging about the driver still, and has now added a second unrelated download demand. Is there anywhere I can simply edit to remove this insistence of downloading NVIDIA - Display - 2/23/2017 12:00:00 AM - 21.21.13.7878. and thus avoid all that effort/stress ?

Try the suggestions in the reddit thread, hopefully something there will resolve the issue.

Embarrassed I’ve not got on with this; but in my defence I’m presently getting Internet drop out issues too. (Seems better when all the fixed line phones have been removed ! I think something is creating noise between the two, but I may be barking up the wrong tree.) That aside.

My first comment re the Reddit thread is that the issue is either different from my issue or is only a part of it as it claims not to be an issue prior to Windows 10. Whilst admitting I didn’t get BSOD using Windows 7, I still used to get crashes. Sometimes it would crash and eventually recover all but the game, rarer times it would crash and need a power recycle. This was why I settled on the driver I did, which crashed less often. Yes it did seem to be DirectX related.

I’ve made a start. I’ve change the TdrDelay and will see how that goes tomorrow. If it doesn’t stop the crashes (and it may not be obvious as they aren’t regular, but random) I’ll continue with the further suggestions mid week. Thanks for your patience.

(Well 10 rapidly proved not to be a helpful value; I’ll try 60.)

Well 60 didn’t help stop the crashes (not BSOD) either, and sfc found nothing. Will resume Tuesday with any luck.

No newer files in that directory since the 29th. Maybe because, as mentioned, not had a BSOD since, crashes tend to recover all but the game window, after a fair old wait to see if it will recover at all, and occasionally simply freezes and needs a power cycle. Will continue with the Reddit thread suggestion later, but I’m not overly confident it’ll stop the issue. Meanwhile, as I asked recently, still got the settings update status screen saying NVIDIA update needs downloading, and it has now been joined by some Samsung update. Does anyone know how to edit/delete the NVIDIA from there as I don’t wish to go through yet another cycle of DDU/reinstall. Should I expect this creators’ update to be joining the list soon ?
                  Cheers.

Only way I can think of that will stop Windows suggesting driver updates.

Have you tried doing a custom install of the Nvidea drivers and only installed the driver and physx (HD audio only if you use HDMI).

You can also disable the Nvidea auto update option if you happen to have the Nvidea control panel already installed, Nvidea guide here

Cheers but tried the control panel method as per post 21. Maybe I’ll try it again. Was rather hoping there was a file I could change directly but that’s probably wishful thinking.

It’s not the NVIDIA stuff causing the updates, it’s the MS settings update page. Not had time to look at it so far today, Should find time tomorrow.

When you get a chance could you post a summary of what fixes you have tried please Slytod + confirm that we have had the latest available crash dmp, we may need to try and get later Nvidea drivers running.

Btw, I have absolutely no idea why you cannot stop Microsoft auto searching for updates when you have disabled the facility, it may suggest a problem with Windows itself I`m afraid

Yes the only dump files are from the 21st and 29th as attached earlier.
As mentioned, the BSOD crashes have ceased, I’m back to the usual crashes now.

Ooo a summary. My memory ain’t great, I try things and when they fail I tend to forget them; but I’ll run through this thread and see if it jogs my memory.

I did remove Experience but it seems to come back every time I reinstall so I tend to let it be. There is no indication that it is interfering with anything anyway. Neither does it seem to effect whether setting/update lists the driver.

(Got rid of the one drive thing as advised.)

Used the wushowhide.diagcab method to fix things. That seemed to stop the nagging for a bit, maybe I should try it again. Noted the description of how to do the same thing via control panel.

Problem changed and I started getting the BSODs.

Did a full sweep of things starting by using DDU in safe mode, then reinstalling the version I wanted, and then tried the control panel method of stopping the driver from being listed for update (which subsequently seemed to fail to work).

I then used the wushowhide.diagcab method again (but now it seems it has failed too).

After the safe mode bit I noticed this Windows Ink thing on my toolbar and used advice from thewindowsclub to get rid of it.

                          I uploaded the dump files.

Read the links you posted (the last bits of some of them as the failing drivers were interesting but I wasn’t getting much feel for solutions).

Noted that AMD cards were affected too.

Got a driver update demand from settings/update AGAIN.

Changed TdrDelay to 10, didn’t work. Changed TdrDelay to 60, didn’t work.

Noted the NVIDIA driver download demand is now accompanied by a Samsung one.

Tried the sfc /scannow suggestion, it found no issue.

Tried the chkdsk C: /f suggestion but it needs to do it at next reboot; agreed to that but before I rebooted, replied here.

I am aware that speedfan suggests my CPU runs hot. It always tends to, but I don’t believe it is the issue. I mention it just for completeness. IMO the issue seems DirectX related.

Can not tell if the chkdsk found anything. Seemed to be ages on 24% so I went and did something else, and when I looked back it was rebooting back in. I assume all was well.
Not sure I’m keen on a clean install of Windows 10 from ISO file. Especially if there is a massive creators update due anyway. Don’t have a small child.

Browser console ? I’m uncomfortable about running java off the Net like that. Could be doing anything.

That reddit thread seems to degenerate into a slanging match after a bit. Unsure what else to take from it.

I expect I’ll get moaned at for not concatenating the three posts but they are different stages.
Just tried the can file again to stop updates and I find there are two NVIDIA ones. Anyone know the difference between

                              NVIDIA Corporation - MEDIA
                              NVIDEO - Display

As it may be that one was already blocked and I’m seeing something different in the updates. It is the -Display that is showing in the settings/update to be downloaded, but had I made a guess I’d have thought that was the driver one. I suppose I could block both but then I don;t know what I’m missing out on. To be honest with a number like 21.21.13.7878 that sounds suspiciously like the driver, maybe at version 378.78 ? In which case it’s the one still listed ! Or maybe not. Just opened Experience and it claims the latest is 381.65. But maybe MS is behind NVIDIA when it comes to “latest”. Oh decisions decisions. Maybe I’ll tick both then.

Oh and yes a fair number of further updates has joined the list now.

Direct from the Nvidea Geforce forums
                                Q: What is GeForce Experience?
A: GeForce Experience is the companion application to your GeForce GTX graphics card. It keeps your drivers up to date, automatically optimizes your game settings, and gives you the easiest way to share your greatest gaming moments with friends.

Having Experience installed means every time you boot up the program will check for updates, that was why a custom install was suggested in reply #39

You can try reinstalling DirectX from here but can I ask if when the system freezes you get an onscreen message saying that the " display driver stopped working and has recovered"
