Hi, I got a new cpu and put it in however my pc didnt start. I figured my mobo needed a new bios update and so I installed my old CPU back. However, now my computer turns on but there is no display and the USB dont work.

I tried resetting my bios via cmos battery. My RAM works fine. I took everything apart and rebuilt but same problem. All my hardware worked fine before this.

I have no idea on what to do. Please help.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for both of the CPUs, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.
 
It is custom built.
The CPU is a ryzen 2200g - Tried to upgrade to a ryzen 7 2700x
Motherboard is A320M-HDV
RAM is Corsair vengeance 8GB
GPU RX570
PSU 700w Aerocool 80+ White
 
First thing of note is that the Ryzen 7 2700x is not compatible with the ASRock A320M-HDV MB.

See CPU support list here and the CPU specs here

The problem is that the Ryzen 7 2700x requires 105W whereas the maximum available wattage to the CPU socket is only 65W.

Second thing is the PSU, if you check the PSU links in my sig at the bottom Aerocool you will see that the brand is on both the "to avoid" and the Lemon list.

As a starting point I would suggest that you remove the RX 570 from the PCI-E slot on the MB, check that all your internal power connections are secure, hook your screen up to the appropriate video port on the MB, reconnect the computer to the wall socket, see if you are able to power up and have video on the display.

I have tried to connect the monitor to the motherboard but it is still the same outcome.


Sorry I have another question, is a ryzen 5 3600 compatible with the motherboard I have?

Had you removed the add on GPU from the MB before you tried the onboard graphics.

Was your screen connected to the MBs HDMI port when you tried the onboard graphics.

Did you see the MBs CPU link that was provided, the Ryzen 5 3600 is ninth on the list which means that it is compatible with a working ASRock A320M-HDV MB, being a 3rd generation CPU you must update the BIOS first though, that info is also available at the same link.

Yes, I have removed the GPU from the mobo.

Yes it was connected to the motherboard hdmi when the gpu was out.

I would also like to add, I have a light up keyboard and mouse and they do not work when plugged in too.
 
Only one more thing I can suggest for you I`m afraid and that is to see if you can borrow a PSU to swap in for testing purposes, using the integrated graphics and no add on GPU a decent brand 300W or above will suffice.

If the behaviour is the same with a replacement PSU it suggests that the MB is bad and has possibly been shorted out.

NB: Have you tried the keyboard and mouse in the other USB ports, they need to be in the black USB 2.0 type and not the blue USB 3.0 ones.
 
Can the pc still be turned on if there is a short circuits motherboard? What would've caused this?

I have tried with another psu.

No.

Hard to say as we have no way of knowing what has transpired, static charge in your body is enough to ruin a MB but more likely is there being charge left in the capacitors or the computer still being connected to the wall socked when hardware has been swapped in or out, there is also the possibility of a bent CPU pin.

The USB ports still not working with a replacement PSU points even more towards the MB being bad.

Worst part about this for you is that the CPU wouldn`t have worked in any event :(
 
I know..
I shouldve been more careful with my compute but I'm learning along the way.

What I dont get is that my computer can still be turned on - CPU and case fans work, Rx570 light is on and the PCI-e wifi has its green light so that is working too.

If this is the case then a short circuit should be out of the picture right? Or?

Question, did the computer work ok when you put the original CPU back in to update the BIOS?
