Hello. I posted a thread couple weeks ago about having some problems with my pc. Weird sound was coming out of it something like a click or beep, i will send the recording via wetransfer link. You guys said it was a click of death and that I should replace my hdd asap. System is located on my ssd, and i have hdd for storage. I went to a local computer service and they tested it and couldn’t hear the sound and software tests showed that hdd was ok, but a couple of days after they called me saying it was in fact hdd. They replaced the hdd and as I turned it back on at home the sound is still here and even more frequent than before. It’s obviously some other component because the hard disk is new, I purchased it myself. When the sound comes on my computer slows down for a couple of seconds and the red lamp on my computer turns off for a second. I have an audio interface connected to my pc with studio monitors and a mike. Also wireles mouse and keyboard. I’m literally going crazy about all this since no one can detect the problem. It’s like whenever my pc does something that requires a lot of power or cpu, that sound comes on. I really hope you can help me with this since this is my livelihood. English is not my first language, so excuse me if I’m not being 100% clear. Hope to hear from you soon.

The link that you provided has been removed it is nothing but an advertisement for that site.

Do not type things as one paragraph makes things hard to follow and understand.

Lest start here and see what others have to say.

Try using something like drobox or google drove to share the file that site just went to an advertisement to join prior to accessing the file.

What red lamp and where?

Sometimes darning shipping and transport things get loose and shifted you will need to open the system and reseat
RAM
Data Cables
Power Cables
Display Card

Do NOT do anything with the CPU otherwise you will need to re-thermal paste it.

Chack to make sure that it is not one of the fans going out or hitting something.

Check the temps tp make sure that they system is not over heating.

Check the BIOS make sure that there is nothing there that needs to be corrected.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I’m not really someone who knows a lot about hardware let alone how to do all the things you just mentioned, so it’s better if I give my pc to someone else that knows how to do all that stuff.

Red light in front of the computer that indicates cpu usage i think.

The sound is something like a beep and followed by the sound similar to the sound of a vhs tape.

I’ll be sending you the link with the recording in a sec.

Not a problem fully understand that not everyone feels comfortable opening and tinkering inside of computer.

You can refer the the manual that will explain that without knowing the make and model of anything would only be a guess.

Again with out knowing complete system specs hard to say what could be causing that sound.

Lets get a speccy report

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hope this is it.

Check and see if there possibility is a disk in the DVD drive.

I am wondering if that drive may be making the noise.

Best way to check is disconnect the HDD and DVD see if the noise persist.

If that was the fact would of though that the place you took it would of tested and checked that.

Dvd haven’t been working for some time, when I try to put a cd in, it doesn’t read at all. How do I disconnect dvd or hdd?

Would require you opening the case and disconnecting the SATA and Power cable that are connected to them.

Would start with the DVD.

Do not forget to turn off the system and properly ground yourself to prevent damage to the computer.

I’m not sure I can do it alone, i will have do call a friend who does computer stuff to help me. I’ll let you know what happens. Thanks

Oh, and also it seems that when I unplug my audio interface and keys (midi keyboard) the sound doesn’t come as often. Yesterday I turned on my computer with all of it plugged in and it made that sound on the startup and it slowed computer start up, today I unplugged it all and it turned on without the sound. Maybe I’m imagining things at this point… 😭

as discussed in the earlier thread, and already re-stated above in post #7, unplugging the HDD would certainly determine if it was the cause, or not.

Hard drive is new, can it be that the new hdd installed two days ago can already be broken? They replaced the old one with this one

Then new HDD cannot be ticking since it is an SSD
Storage
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM008-2FR102 (SATA (SSD)
465GB Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB (Unknown (SSD)

Without seeing how you setup is could be a number of things that can be causing this. From the sounds of it could have been the MIDI keyboard being on (like I stated guessing)

We do not know what is plugged in to where externally.

Is the sound heard from the system or through the speakers?

There is ssd 500gb and hdd 2tb, midi is plugged in the back of the computer using usb, audio interface EVO also in the back using usb, wireless mouse and keyboard in the front also using usb. I unplugged midi and it worked better but when I updated a software for the midi the sound started again. Sound is coming from the actual hardware, not the speakers, and like I said, it affects the computer to work slow for a couple of seconds.

I sure would like to see you open up the side cover, remove the power cable from the Seagate HDD, then power the PC up.
if no noise - HDD was the issue, new or not.
if still a noise, you either have another mechanical drive somewhere on the system or I'm completely baffled, because that noise you posted in the other thread is exactly how a dead drive sounds.

Im taking it to get checked out, I’ll let you know. Maybe it’s the dvd that has been broken for quite some time, or something ikd… if it’s hdd again I’m gonna lose my mind haha luckily i have two years warranty for this new one. Keep this thread open if that’s ok till i find out more, and thanks for the help

Looks like it was hdd again… they probably sold me a bad one… do you have any recommendations which manufacturer of hdd is the best?

With the drive disconnected how is the system running?

If it does turn out the be the new drive, see if they could exchange it for an External USB drive that you can use for storage. If you are using the second drive for storage.

I have had new drives out of the package fail or shortly after some use.

Drive that are good and with anything else some will say that it depends on the model you get.

Samsung and Toshiba are my top two reliable ones for internal and external storage.

There is a program that you can run to check the drive and see if it may be failing. This is a standalone program so there is no installation.

Uncompressed the file
Right click on Diskinfo64.exe
Select run as Administrator
Click on Yes

post a screen shot by pressing the Alt and Prt Scr together with CrystalDisk info in the screen. Paste in you next post by right clicking then select Paste. Make sure that you have also selected the second drive so we can see the results.

Thanks! I’ve checked both drives multiple times on this app, everything looked ok, health was good on both the old one and this new one, but the drive was still the problem apparently.

This guy hooked up another drive that he had on him and the sound didn’t come on, also he said something about not being able to defragment the disk when he tried to do so. My hdd, not his.

He also saw when he hooked up my hdd to his computer, that it turn off on it’s own, he thinks that that’s what’s making the noise and slowing down problem.

It all suggests that it’s a hdd.

Maybe the best solution is to purchase external drive, but I need it plugged in all the time since my music projects use data from that drive (samples, loops, sound banks…)

I told the guy to unplug dvd since i don’t ever use it.

My question is… and this is probably the last one… what causes hdd to not work properly? Especially the new one… it’s obviously a physical error since it’s producing weird sounds and it turns on and off by itself. Can it be corrupted files or is it more like someone dropped it pr something? If this happens the third time I’m gonna go insane 😂
