Hi there,

I am looking for some help in finding the problem behind the screen freezes and BSODs that happens when I play certain games.
As mentioned above, this screen freeze (which leads to reboot and possibly BSOD) usually happens on these games within 10 mins:
- Monster Hunter World
- Overwatch
- Honkai Impact 3rd PC version
I play other games such as League of Legends, Apex Legends, Dota2, Destiny2.. a variety to be exact, however, they do not seem to have
this issue.

These are the specs for my desktop:

I have been searching for some answers with my friends and we think that my wifi dongle is the hardware causing the issues stated.
I would appreciate some help from more experienced people and I will try to reply ASAP with any details that might help solve this problem.
Thank you very much!

Can I ask how you come to have an Education version of Windows on your computer.

The Windows Desktop Manager was what crashed according to the latest dmp file, no other driver was specifically identified which suggests that the crash was hardware related,

The previous crash likewise does not name any drivers so again looks hardware related, what crashed I have no idea as the process is unidentifiable, see attachment below.

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

From Speccy;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

I suggest that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

Hi,

I have an Education version of windows because my school provides a copy for us, students, in the event that we need it.
I bought this desktop off someone else who only had it for a few months and when he handed it over, I was left with a demo version of Windows
with some functions unavailable to me. And in order to access some Windows settings such as personalizing my desktop, I needed a proper
version of Windows.

My PSU is an EVGA 650 GQ, 80+ GOLD 650W.

After my screen freezes or a BSOD happens (so far only during the games mentioned above), under Event Viewer> Windows Logs > System,
there are 2 errors that appear. I will attach screenshots of them below if it helps.

I have just changed the power setting according to your recommendation. I should do a test with this new setting and update any new results am I right?

Thank you for your time and attention, really appreciate it!

Thanks for the update and additional information.

If the issue begins to look like being Windows related I`m afraid that we cannot help you and you will need to contact your schools IT dept Admin, the OS is licensed to your school and we cannot go near it, this just so that you are aware.

Those two errors are unrelated to either crash, had they been critical errors they would be of concern and your computer can be running but if you check the event viewer you will always see errors of one form or another.

Did you look at the attachment, if yes, any idea as to what "releas" is that caused the crash, what were you using the computer for at the time of this particular crash, it could be the clue that we need.

Now that the power plan has been changed, try using the computer as normal.

I see. I have no idea what "releas" is, unfortunately.

During the time of the crash, I will be inside 1 of the above games, playing online, and very often, within 15-30 mins, my screen freezes suddenly and the computer reboots.

I will try to also do a clean reinstall of the OS to see if it was the issue.

Thank you very much and I will keep you updated

You can only have been playing the one game at the time of the "releas" related crash so what game was it.

Have you had any more crashes since changing the power plan.

If as things look this is hardware related reinstalling Windows will solve absolutely zero.

Apologies, so I just went and run Monster Hunter World, joined a friend's session and joined his quest and just played the game.
My desktop then suddenly freezes up about 7 minutes into the game. I was just playing it normally.

This is after the change in power plan.

Something for you to do to see how your present set up handles video when not online gaming;

Use the free versions at the following links;

Stress test your GPU with Furmark

For Windows 10: Check your FPS etc with SUPERPOSITION

How long should I run the GPU stress test for? About 30 mins? Or over the night?
I will only be able to update tomorrow as the download for SUPERPOSITION is not that fast.

20 mins or so but please not overnight, the test puts the GPU under stress as part of the procedure so is best kept an eye on.

Take your time with SUPERPOSITION, Furmark will basically tell us what we need to know and the other test is an added bonus that tells you how good or bad your GPU is.

Proves that there is nothing wrong with your GPU and the problem is either Windows related or a problem with your internet connection/service, the latter is quite common were online gaming is concerned and unfortunately that is something that you have to take up with your ISP.

We have a couple of other things for you to check out;

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP Configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us.

You just let SUPERPOSITION run and it tests your GPUs performance and lets you know what sort of FPS you were getting.

Off to check the MTB log, will edit this post so please don`t reply meanwhile.

Edit to add;

Quick question, do you have the wireless USB adaptor in a black USB 2.0 port or a blue USB 3.0 port.
