I have 2 monitors, Asus VG279QM's to be exact, I purchased my first about a year ago, and just recieved my second today.

I've notice my original has a slightly more blue-ish tinge (This is especially noticable on whites) to it than the new one, It's not from direct exposure to the sun or anything like that, but it's just noticeable enough.

All of my user settings are identical, does anyone know why this would be?


If it's just a result of the panel lottery I can live with it, but if it's something I can fix, I'll do whatever I can.

After some tampering with the brightness settings, I was able to get it pretty close. If anyone else knows the reason one needs to be at 50 and the other 70, I'd love to know.

Perhaps something to keep in mind if you buy two of these, try to get a smaller sample size.
 
the year gap might account for a few things, like, the manufacture has changed components and your old screen has 'burnt in'.
also, you're probably using different cables and ports, one may be HDMI while the other VGA or DVI or DP.

I thought about 'burn in' or just the general degradation of an IP screen over time, it seems like the main difference is the brightness, weird that they'd change that.

Both are connected through the factory DP cables to my GPU (No wonkiness with a split half mobo half video card), probably should look into some nicer ones at some point, but would that really make 'the difference?'
 
yeah, agreed, you wouldn't think they would change things but a year in computing is a long time.
at least you are using the same type of port, cables and both go to the GPU card so you can rule those potentials out.
which only leaves the different screens, despite the same make/model.

you only have to walk through any retail outlet selling screens and monitors to see all the various nuances between manufactures.

i know years ago i pulled apart a LG monitor and found 'made by samsung' stickers all in it.
so for all you know the badge on the outside of your new screen may be the same as the old, but the innards could be sourced from a different supplier.

Yep, no issues with any of that, other than a flicker between the two monitors when I start up, sort of an alternating deal, not sure what that's about (I think it's possibly something to do with the G-Sync?)

Yeah, I suppose so, I'd think with two identical monitors, especially something that is so niche (a 280hz 1080p monitor), they wouldn't really 'need' to change anything, but that's tech I guess.

I don't have the skills or confidence pull either of mine apart, but I'd bet you're right.
 
I hope so, even though it's not a 'problem,' it would be nice to know why or how to fix it. :)

I am still curious about that alternating 'flickering' if anyone knows what exactly is happening. :)
 
are we still on the brightness issue, or is there a flickering issue as well?
Now you've got me wondering about the flickering, is it okay to continue with that question under this topic?

so it's not a screen flicker issue, more a screen or PC going to sleep issue?
check your PC's power save settings, and there will be something similar in the menu system on the monitors as well.

if it's software related, try creating another user account and logging in under that profile and see if the problem persists, and try booting the PC into Safe Mode.
 
Not a power issue, I have automatic sleep/rest disabled. However, it does that same flicker in rapid succession about twice or 2 to 1 on both monitors when I first start up and feed the DP/monitors (or if the computer is woken from sleep, whenever the monitors have no input, and then receive input). Unfortunately, I can't upload a video of my own to show the exact process.

since I got LCD screens, I have always disabled any and all sleep/standby/hibernate functions on all hardware and software.

I'm not sure I follow, but I did it through the power settings (This includes high power as my power plan, along with turning sleep and display off to never). :)

Same, no fancy hibernation or sleep modes, other than anything monitor does by default, which I have not messed with (eco is off by default).

the 3 areas to look at for power management would be the monitor menu system. the mobo's BIOS and Windows itself.
and in Windows, sounds like you have done the Control Panel > Power Options settings. what about turning off hibernation from an elevated command prompt and typing powercfg -h off

This happens when I turn on, or wake the computer from hibernation, I do not shut my monitors off when the computer is on due to the mess it causes with my desktop (Mess as in, rearranging everything and putting it on only one screen, along with giving me notifications of how a G-Sync monitor has been disconnected/connected.)

Furthermore, I have to turn both monitors on before powering on, this is due to some issue my GPU, MOBO, and screen all share, it causes a warning light to come on for some unknown reason. While this is not an 'issue' per say, I like to avoid it by turning the screens on first.

I hope this makes my question a little more clear, sorry for the confusion.

but yeah, I've got nothing else on that 'flicker' issue.

I used to, back in the day, also come across issues when waking the PC up out of hibernation, either PSU related or mobo or what have you, got too sick of always trying to find a solution each time I upgraded parts that I simply turned off all power saving options.
