Hey, i have this issue, i have tried troubleshooting it, restarting the audioservices, reinstalled drivers but nothing seems to work, i even reinstalled windows. The pc is a Dell xps 15. the issue is that the on board audio doesnt work, not the headphone jack or my tv sound connected via hdmi. The only way i got the audio to work was with a ps4 controller connected via usb to a headphone cable connected to that.

if antbody got a suggestion i would be happy to try it.

Hey Bruce, thank you. im not sure exactly what you mean, but i have not installed any new drivers after installing windows. I did update all my drivers though before that.

how would i go about doing that? Is it just device manager->system devices->(motherboard) then uppdate?

go to the Dell website, then Support > Product Support and enter your Service Tag.
get all the motherboard drivers - video, sound, chipset, network (to name the main ones).
download and install those.

since you didn't do that after reloading Windows, it may be that simple. :)
