Since 19/9/2023 ive been experiencing crashes with my pc.
They can appear at random, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after hours and sometimes the computer doesnt crash for days.

eventviewer says its a kernel power 41 issue.

At first, i decided it was PSU problem. so i bought a new PSU and a new case (be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W PSU and Fractal Design Torrent Compact White TG Clear Tint Midi Tower)

This however did NOT fix the problem. Since i got a new case i had already changed all of the cables etc. i also changed the power strip to see if that fixed any issues. but it did not.
I also reinstalled my drivers (DDU), updated windows etc and did a bios reset. nothing worked.

The next thing i tried was switching up the RAM (G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z 2x8GB 3600MHz CL18 RGB) first i tried unplugging one stick, then the other, then i switched the slots but nothing helped. (note that i havent bought new RAM to try out)

Then it was time to try out the GPU. I changed mine ( AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT) to and old nvidia 1070, and for a few days no crashes. But eventually it crashed again. Lastly i changed my SSD (WD Black SN850X 2TB M.2 SSD) to and old one and did a clean windows 11 install. after a few hours the computer crashed again.

Im a bit at a loss for words. I dont want to have to spend a lot of money again on new hardware that wont solve the issue. Does anyone have an idea or has had this issue?
Is it most likely to be the ram, motherboard or cpu? or is there something in the software i have overlooked?

motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor

How long will the pc run before it crashes ? The reason i am asking we use software that give us more info.
 
It really depends, it doesnt matter what im doing (so scrolling the internet, playing a game, watching a show) it can all lead to the pc either crashing within 10 mins or a few hours. it has even gone 2-4 days in between crashes. But eventually it will always crash

Im using this PSU which i bought to try and fix the problem: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W PSU (had the 750 version before this)

and yes i did DDU. so i uninstalled my drivers then switched the GPU and installed the new ones.
 
Other may have more on this.

Could be a bad GPU.

Have you if possible tested in another working system to see if it works there?

Assemble outside of the case on a thick piece of cardboard using the minimal hardware.

Required a Minimum PSU Recommendation850 W hoping the 750 was not connected to long to have done damage to the card.

Is outside of what the CPU is capable of handling.

is reported when the system shuts down and or restarts unexpectedly.
 
''Could be a bad GPU.'' I'm not convinced that this is the case, since im getting crashes using both the nvidia 1070 and the amd 6950

Validates that the parts are not shorting out somehow and or where within the case or anything else for that matter.

Could have been shorted out by using a subpar PSU.

Possibility that it may be related and or just part of it and or down the line.

May not happen overnight yet does over time and depends on use.

We do not know what and how much you and other use the system per day month year.

We did not see how you did the card change if it was even done correctly and properly.

You can ither wait for others to respond, attempt what had been answered, go someplace else.
 
if I've caught up.... old gear still in use that could be at fault are; memory, drive, motherboard.
agreed, having same issues on 2 GPU's would not make them top of the suspect list of causes (but you never can tell).

getting another drive and reloading Win11 (or even a better test, Win10, in case it's driver related) would be the next thing to try.
any chance you know someone with a stick of memory you could try; friend, family, neighbour, work PC?

if all those still have the same crashes, then it's time to try another motherboard.

the cardboard test is not only good for eliminating a short causing the issue, but also lets you swap and play with parts much more easily.
only reassemble the core essentials; one RAM, one drive, no DVD, no PCIe cards except the mandatory GPU, no USBs devices - not even the front panel USB3 header.

as to the crashes - have you tried seeing what doesn't crash.
like - go into BIOS and leave it, see what happens.
leave it at the Window login screen, leave it, see if it crashes.
boot into Safe Mode, leave it..... you get the point. :)

if none of them crash, it's likely not hardware related.
