My gpu fried i was running a gtx 980 and when i got my pc back from these tech guys it said i was running an intel hd graphics 530. I ordered a new graphics card and upon installation noticed my old gtx 980 was still in the pc. I removed it and installed the gtx 1070 and booted my computer and it doesnt detect the new gpu. Im such a noob on pcs I had mine premade a few years ago and just as the warranty expired this happened. on the gtx 1070 there are 8 points and i used a single 8 point connector which was red if that helps to power it. any ideas on what to do?

What do you mean "which was red if that helps to power it' - is this a light or simply the color of the cable?

Is your monitor plugged into the GPU or the motherboard? The GPU is typically a set of HDMI/Displayport output set further down on the back of the case.

What power supply do you have in the computer?

Does the computer turn on without the new GPU in it?
