Dear Team,

My desktop computer has been freezing unexpectedly and restarting. Any advice on the cause?

I am using a Dell 17" Monitor, purchased via ebay. PC is an Amazon Renewed i5, 64-bit OS; Windows 10 Pro.

Details attached.

Where??

If you can access the system long enough...

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

What is the make and model of the power supply unit.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Others may have more to say...

When it freezes and restarts happen randomly or when certain apps/programs are running?

Have you cleaned the dust out of the system?

It freezes randomnly during ordinary use. I am not a gamer so that's not a factor. The PC monitor freezes for a few seconds, then restarts. No dust.

Is Bitdefender the paid version or the free?

You also have two antivirus scanners running and they will cancel out each other and fight for resources. Windows Defender and Firewall are

Remove Bitdefender and see if that helps we have had a few users have issues similar to this with that installed.

Bitdefender removal tools here

If you stick with only Windows Defender, once any other AV has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Open a command prompt With Administrator Rights an type the following command
notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Save the file to someplace you can find it and attach to your next post.

BitDefender is a paid version. If I remove it, am i not exposing the PC to virus/malware attacks etc.? I will do a scan after the uninstall. File attached.

No Windows Defender is an antivirus and Anti Malware that is included with windows
I have uninstalled BitDefender and run a full system scan on my PC - can find only 1 potential low-risk app running, no other major issues. My monitor is a cheap one purchased from ebay - could this be a possible cause as my PC is only 6 months old?

For the system freezing no the monitor would not cause this. The monitor would not display and or show ghosting to fading.

This is more a hardware or software issue we just need to narrow it down.

How is the system running since Bitdefender has been removed?

If the same next steps is to see if this replicates during clean boot and safe mode.

For the last few hours, my PC is in clean boot mode. Just now I have noticed " Bluetooth Security Tag" appeared on my login screen. Is this related to the problem? How do i remove it? When do i return my PC to "normal" mode?

Have now returned my PC to normal mode.

Do you have any thing connecting to bluetooth to that system?

So after removing Bitdefender the problem still existed?
Bluetooth problem sorted now back to normal mode. I haven't seen the main problem since, so I don't know if or when it will return.

Glad to hear that.
Let us know in a few day other wise will consider resolved.
Hello again. The old problem just reared its ugly ahead! The monitor froze, like being hit with an electric shock for 5 seconds, screen went black, then PC restarted itself. Should I remove Bitdefender permanently? What are your thoughts?
