Hi there! :) I'm new, nice to meet you all!
I really hope someone will be able to help me with this as I don't know much about setting up internet stuff.. I called my provider today who informed me our line is good, there should be no trouble..

The current set up is a router (NETGEAR DGND300V2 )
Which goes into my dads computer and into the phoneline. Is this modem out of date, I read somewhere that having an old modem can cause problems. Should we replace it? The service provider guy didn't seem to know much about why both the wifi lights were orange (2.4 ghz) and the 5.ghz was blue. Everything else is a healthy green/yellow light.

I then have my PC the other side of the house which currently is trying to operate on a Netis model no. WF2123 - my pc keeps dropping internet and struggling to have internet of any usable speed. My pc doesn't NEED to be wireless of course.

My question is.. would our internet (especially mine as its not really existent) benefit from a new modem and home plugs? Or would getting a new modem improve the use of the little netis wifi usb stick I'm using?

Thank you so much in advance.

Welcome to PCHF Ithfifi,

Not finding anything via Google using the model name and number NETGEAR DGND300V2 is this definitely the correct model number and how long have you had the said device.

The service provider guy didn't seem to know much about why both the wifi lights were orange (2.4 ghz) and the 5.ghz was blue.
Orange lights are normally a sign that something is wrong.

Its a old router and adsl2+ cant you get infinity were you are adsl+ is very old. The problem with it is adsl2 is very slow max about 25 meg infinity gives you up to 70 megs. A cable to your pc is the best option homeplugs being the second best option

Sure that you will be aware already but for the benefit of others that may read this thread, Netgear routers are forced upon subscribers to a certain multi media provider in the UK and across other parts of the world, tech support is most often useless and purchasing any third party router not an option, the company concerned will not connect any device unless purchased from them.

In the instance of routers, if your telephone works but you have orange lights on the same router that your telephone is connected to and no internet connection to your computers LAN or Wi-Fi connection then it is your router that has a problem.

As said in my reply #2 orange lights suggest that something is broken, without having the exact model of router info we cannot determine the significance of the orange lights so we rely on the member ithfifi to pass on the relevant info.
