Hi,
I had a problem where my new computer wouldn’t shut down properly. I tried everything I could find with no success until I simply started removing components.
The good news is that I found the problem component which is my Graphics card. I tried taking it out and putting it back in, hoping the problem was it was seated badly, however it still doesn’t work.
I’ve updated its drivers with no success.
When it’s plugged into the mb but not power or the screen, everything works as it should but as soon as the power is connected the computer won’t turn off anymore.
Is there anything I can do or is it simply a faulty graphics card?

My build:
Intel core i5 3.6GHz, coffee lake
Asrock h370 pro 4
Nvidia GeForce Htx 1070
EVGA 750 wat g3
16 gb ram
Windows 10

Hello

Either you have a bad card or mobo PCIe slot. Can you try another vid card to test that slot?
 
I have a Radeon r9 270x but when I plug it in the screen shows ‘ Asrock sapphire’ and then just turns black, nothing more seems to happen. It worked fine on my old computer so I don’t know if it’s compatibility or something else that’s the problem
 
It's the wrong drivers for that 270. If you can't find another gtx 1070 or a nividia card that uses the same drivers,you will have to un install those gtx 1070 drivers and install drivers for that 270. Since seeing the screen is an issue,do you have an onboard vid hookup? Or try going into safe mode with the gtx card .
 
I should installere the 270 drivers while running the gtx card? If I understand correctly? And then plug the 270 in again
 
I have onboard graphics but I can’t figure out how to make it run using those while a card is plugged in and my computer won’t install the 270 drivers without the card plugged in
 
Nothing changed in safe mode
I’ve installed the newest drivers from the website and there is no difference if I use them or remove them all
 
OK, take out your gtx card and use your on board graphics for the time being.. Just so to check once that is done see go back into safe mode and report back if everything works ok.
 
It would be a way to go. If you can now get the drivers for that 270 card and try that to make sure it is not the pcie slot. You will have to un install those gtx drivers first.
 
I will try a bit more and if nothing works regarding the drivers or finding someone with another computer/card then I’ll exchange the card next week when the store opens again

Is this a system that you built or some one built for you?
Is this a system that was pre-made by a company like Dell, HP, ETC?
If it is new and still has a warranty you should contact their support and have them send a replacement part other wise you will void the warranty.
 
I built it myself (with some help from a friend) this Monday so I guess it will be the specific part which I need to send back.
 
logic would also have me pinpointing the blame on the 1070 vid card.
card in, no signal.
card out, on-board card works fine.

rare for them to be DOA but that's what warranty is there for, plus anyway, the shop won't test/care and if the same thing happens with the replacement card you at least definitely will know that component isn't the issue.

your PSU is big enough, so there issue there.
does that 1070 require extra power - you have plugged in the 4/6/8 pin connector/s to the vid card??? :)
 
It requires 1 connector (I think it’s a 6+2, I’m on my way to bed so can’t check)
Wouldn’t other things go wrong if the card doesn’t get enough power though?
At least, I forgot to plug it in one time today and it wouldn’t run at all :p

Luck would have it that a friend of mine has a similar card (same or maybe the ti I think) and build and has time tomorrow so I’m going to his place. We’re planning on swapping cards so hopefully my computer will work and his won’t when the cards are swapped as I then should be able to exchange the card easily enough :)

What you could try before returning the card is.

  1. Remove the 1070 from the pc
  2. Remove the driver
  3. Obviously then plug the monitor into your onboard video
  4. Download a new driver from the card manufacturers website.
  5. Stop Windows from downloading drivers.
  6. Install the card back in the PC and check that it works with no drivers, which it should.
  7. If the card works then install the downloaded driver
