I tried to copy over the image from the old SSD to the new one using that program however it wouldn't work. Old restore points also wouldn't work so I've decided to simply reformat and start from scratch.

I've actually been having huge issues as whenever I install my Nvidia graphics card nothing works on my computer at all. It turns on but as soon as it gets past the loading screen with the windows logo everything goes black.

My hunch is I need to update windows 10 to a later version until I can install the NVidia driver. I'm currently trying that, I've been trying to get this to work for a couple of days.

I'll keep you posted if I can't get it to work.
 
OK, good news.
I agree with your theory - reinstall Win10.
get the latest version onto a bootable USB stick by using the Windows Media Creation Tool.

So a big problem I'm having is windows downloads the driver far too quickly and there's no way I can stop it in time. I'm able to access the computer only the first time I format but after that I can't get to anything before it installs it. I've been downloading windows 10 update from windows 8.1 from Microsoft using their tool but it's not the latest version. I'll have a look at the windows media creation tool after work to see if I can get something working that way.

The problem is each time I want to try something new I need to reformat and it takes a very long time.
 
Okay so apparently I do have the latest version of windows. Windows has installed the Nvidia driver but after I manually reset it somehow turned on. It isn't the latest driver and I feel if I update it I'll have the same problem. Do you have any idea where I can go from here? I'll try leaving my computer on without resetting so I can try something later.

So I came back from work and my computer was in that blank comotose state where it's on but nothing is happening. I pressed reset and it eventually turned on asking me which windows I wanted to run, windows 10 or 8.1. I'm presuming it went to a restore point?

I also have a feeling that I had this problem many years ago when I reformatted and I kept searching everywhere and there was a solution that said you had to install a much outdated driver then update from there and I remember that solution worked for me but I can't seem to find that information anymore. I could be mistaken but I think that's what happened.
 
if it's asking which Windows you want, you have installed Win8 then Win10 and now, effectively, have a dual boot system.
up to you, but I'd be getting the Windows Media Creation Tool image of Win10 and nuking the PC from space again!

if you have more than one, only have the main, boot, C:\ drive, connected.
install Win10 on that from the bootable UISB stick and go from there.

You need to disconnect the computer from the internet before you install Windows, this means either unplugging your ethernet cable or telling Windows that you don't have an internet connection available during the initial setup.
 
Reinstall Win 10 Fresh Install

Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB

In the video at 2:35 Where to install Windows. Highlight each partition and delete.

Then install on the unallocated space.


In the video at 2:54 you will notice it restarts the computer.
When you are doing this and you get to that point Remove the usb stick whilst it is restarting.
Also if you want to setup a local account instead of logging in with a Microsoft account
Turn off your wireless network and or remove the network cable.
This point is 3.32 in the video - Choose I don't have internet.
If you want to log in with a Microsoft account then leave the network as is.



Before doing any install, it is a good idea to go to the support page for your system. Download the drivers you are going to need i.e. chipset, sound, video, wireless, etc. WhilstWin10 has a lot of native drivers, Microsoft drivers are designed for ease of use and are NOT designed for any type of performance. Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.

When you are finished with the Windows install, then install your drivers.

  • Chipset or Motherboard
  • Sata or hard drive
  • Video adapter
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Audio
  • Touchpad
  • Any other hardware drivers needed for your particular model.
Reboot after installing the drivers
 
Okay I'll start working on all that. It might take me a couple of days doing it around work. I'll let you guys know when I'm done.

Try this driver.
Download before you reinstall so you have all the drivers you need before connecting to the internet.

I've spent hours and hours trying different things to different drivers etc.
Nothing worked, it's always the same problem with the blank screen. I don't think it's the graphics driver specifically as anytime I reset the computer even when I never installed a driver to begin with it was the same problem.
I downloaded all the drivers I could manage but it was still the same problem, it's quite possible I may have been installing an incorrect driver for something.
After playing around with it for hours this morning I decided to hand it into a PC shop as every time I wanted to try something new I'd have to reformat and sometimes I'd even struggle to get it to boot from the Flash drive.

So many hours wasted! It'll be interesting to see what the computer shop say but they told me to give them a couple of days to diagnose it. I'll keep you posted but thank you again for your time.
 
To avoid us having to ask for an update every couple of days we will close this thread until the OP has an update, Plughole, PM a member of staff when you are ready and the thread can be reopened.
