SPECS:
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 CPU 3.50 GHz
MOBO: ASRock Z97 Extreme 3
PSU: CX500M
RAM: 8GB

In my system information it says that I have 2.48GB available physical memory. Do I need to just buy more ram? I go on Minecraft and my fps drops every second. This is what it says when I press f3 in Minecraft, it says that I have allocated 100% of my ram, but I haven't because I have only allocated 1gb to Minecraft. My fps will dip as low as 10 fps and then sometimes reach a max of 60. If there is nothing going on around me it will reach 100+. My computer in general is operating slow, browsing the internet, it will lag sometimes when I click on something, or when trying to load a video. My task manager when I am on MC shows that a large amount of my memory is being used up, around 60%. My "power usage trend" also goes from Moderate to high and I was wondering if that is normal. I don't really understand what needs replacing with my pc, I have had it for 5 years and I don't wanna have to start fresh because I don't have a lot of money.

Welcome to PCHF amanda3,

Two issues that I can see from the info provided, the PSU is not appropriate for a gaming type computer and you have java on the computer.

Corsair recommend that their CX range of PSU are only used for entry level desktops as are used in offices or schools etc, these type of computer will typically only have onboard graphics or at best an entry level GPU that does not require any supplemental power dongle from the PSU.

Java, unless absolutely required you should not have java on your computer as it is one of the most exploited applications there is, if it really must be used there are a couple of things that are suggested by security experts, always have the latest version and disable Java when it is not in use.

Minecraft has abandoned the need to use Java down to the aforementioned reasons.

We need some info about your computer;

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

We will double check the temps and voltages in due course but fwiw Speccy does not always report an accurate CPU temp, the MBs own monitoring software sometimes conflicts.

While we look at the rest of the Speccy report;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

I suggest is that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.

Edit to add, Windows is shown to be a recent install, were the drivers for the MB also installed and starting with the chipset drivers first.

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 3/13/2020 9:04:18 PM

All of your RAM is detected but there is signs of high usage

Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 39 %
Total Physical: 7.95 GB
Available Physical: 4.79 GB

A couple of the voltages do look off;

Voltage
+5V: 5.520 V
+3.3V: 3.312 V
+12V: 11.136 V

Get back to us after you have read the above and we will go from there, this includes possibly replacing the PSU.

I changed my power plan to balanced. Windows is a recent install because I wanted to do a clean install of windows, in order to clear up more space. That didn't do anything to help with performance, there is still a ton of lag spikes. I will order a new PSU I just wanna make sure I pick a good one that will last long.

But after reinstalling Windows did you also reinstall the drivers for the MB and starting with the chipset drivers first, Windows 10 uses a lot of its own generic drivers for modern hardware but this does not include chipset drivers, only the maker of the MB can provide these and they need to be installed first so as to avoid potential conflicts.

Your RAM is being hogged and that is responsible for the slow performance.

Uninstall Java, restart the computer, rerun Speccy and then post the updated url for us.

Once we have the updated Speccy url we will provide the steps for checking the temps and voltages and then look at your PSU options.

Not seeing any chipset driver having been installed, do you have a link to what you installed.

I was going to install the main driver as well but I am not sure if the website that I was going to download from was legit.
Not sure what you mean by this, can you explain what you mean by "the main driver" and from where the download was from.

Speccy is still showing the high memory use and the bad voltages, the voltages being off could be what is affecting the memory use.

You said to install the drivers for the motherboard, starting with the chipset drivers and I just referred to the drivers with the name of the motherboard itself as the main drivers. I looked up ASRock Z97 drivers and tried to find one for windows 10 of course and I couldn't find one that would work. The chipset driver that I installed was from here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29227/Chipset-INF-Utility?product=53
It says utility, maybe that's why it didn't work, is this not the actual driver I was supposed to download?

Here are the correct drivers for your motherboard, only get drivers from the manufacturer of your hardware.

I downloaded the drivers, starting with the second one. I wasn't able to download the Intel Lan Driver, this message came up when I tried to download it "Cannot install drivers no Intel adapters are present in this computer." The other driver I wasn't able to download was the VGA driver, the error message was "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software."

Here's the new link: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/uzB0STEpQeYpQRxMtV5OFiv

Can I ask why you have installed Norton AV.

it is important when troubleshooting that you do not do anything that has not been suggested by the person that is trying to help you, couple of reasons for this, it can undo any progress that has been made, you can make things worse and worse case scenario you can end up with a computer that will not boot.

Norton is a resource hog that will slow down your computer and installing it was totally unnecessary as Windows Defender and Firewall are more than adequate for folk that don`t download torrents or other illegal downloads.

It still shows that the CPU temperature is high, should I reapply the thermal paste? Also, instead of buying more ram couldn't I just use my SSD?

No need to purchase anything atm and just so that you are aware RAM and an SSD are two totally different things, RAM stores data on a temporary basis and once you power down the computer the data in the RAM is gone, the data on an SSD is there for good or until it gets overwritten by new data such as a clean install of Windows etc.

I installed Norton because it was included in the drivers list, but I will uninstall it.
Sorry, should have been a bit clearer, you only needed to download and install the chipset driver for the time being, Norton not being a driver should not even be on the download list tbh.

No you should not reapply thermal paste and for the reason that was explained in my reply #4;

We will double check the temps and voltages in due course but fwiw Speccy does not always report an accurate CPU temp, the MBs own monitoring software sometimes conflicts

Before we check the voltages we will take a look at the CPU and RAM usage, can I suggest that you make Chrome your default browser, this should help make connecting to the internet quicker for you, once you have done this, open Task Manager to full screen, give it a moment or two for things to settle down, grab a screenshot of Task Manager and upload it for us.

I made chrome my default browser and thanks for the information on SSD's and RAM. This is the screenshot of my task manager.

Good that you have changed to Chrome and you are welcome for the RAM & SSD information :)

Task Manager looks a lot better but I did notice the presence of Norton, see attachment below;

Any improvement in performance?

I uninstalled Norton. This is how my task manager looks when I am on a minecraft server. My power usage goes from high to very high. I still get really bad lag spikes when I play minecraft. However, if I downgrade to 1.8.8 and lower my settings in the game, the lag spikes aren't as crazy. I don't want to have to do this though, I am willing to replace a part, I just want it to run smoothly again.

If you wish to continue receiving my help you will need to do as is asked or I will have to ask for someone else to take over.

Nowhere was it mentioned to run Minecraft + your screenshot shows that you have Java installed again so things are back to square one :(
