Inexplicable Crashes and Restarts

Let's stress test your GPU. Download Furmark and install it.

FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test (Looks like it's "BURN-IN test" now)
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
NOTE: Set the alarm to go off at 90ºC. Then watch the system from that point on. If the system doesn't display a temperature, watch it constantly and turn it off at the first sign of video problems. DO NOT leave it it unmonitored, it can DAMAGE your video card!!!
If the temperature gets above 100ºC, quit the test - the video card is overheating.
- Click "Quit" to exit
What you are looking for:
- excessive heat from the GPU (report back with anything over 90ºC)
- problems with the video display (picture is distorted or jumbled, picture turns black, etc)
- problems reported by the program (I haven't seen this, but "just in case"
 
So I've run FurMark and it leveled out at about 66 degrees max. Then it shut down.

I've also found that some restarts reset many of my settings, both in game and out. In PubG I've had to reset all my personal settings for instance. My audio stop working and I had set up my headset and speakers again. HOwever, while Realtek seems to be installed, I can't find the program to start it up to alter my sound.
As a result, I first had no sound through my speakers, now I just get a low toned drone, sometimes various Windows sounds play but they echo.
Also, about 90% of the things from the Hidden Icons button in the bottom right are gone. I have no idea how to summon them back.

Does this FurMark thing reveal anything to you? I am really starting to despair here with this PC.
 
It shut down? Not good.

From what you're explaining to me, the first step I would do is reinstall windows. From scratch. Something is seriously wrong and furmark should not have shut down. That points to either windows acting up or a gpu fault. Backup everything while you can.
 
I've had trouble sorting an ISO for Windows 10 as the Windows instructions just link me in circles. A friend is coming over tomorrow with a bootable drive and we'll go from there.

So, I've been using the PC as I normally would since reinstalling Windows. No issues at all. However, just now I've had one of those strange crashes. No blue screen, no warning, nothing I can see that would trigger or explain it :\

The above points towards a hardware issue, system short or a flaky PSU/power on button as a couple of examples.

Please provide information about your computer, this includes is it a notebook or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if it is provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.

So the computer is a custom built PC. Here are some images of the components I bought and used.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
 
Couple of things of note in Speccy, not sure that any of them would explain the computer shutting down though.

Your memory should be running at 800MHz.
DRAM Frequency: 666.5 MHz

You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load.
Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 26 %

A couple pf the voltages look off, these could be Speccy mis reporting them so we will check them another way in due course.

AVCC: 3.296 V
3VCC: 3.296 V
CPU CORE: 0.240 V
VCCIN: 1.776 V
DRAM: 1.504 V
+12V: 11.088 V
+5V: 5.080 V

There are a lot of TCP Connections, this could be overloading your internet connection etc.

Left until the last as it is what I would suggest that you address first, I dont see the version of BIOS that you have at the MSI support page so it could be the original, try installing the latest BIOS which also includes the earlier upgrades, among the improvements are VGA/graphics compatibility.

Hi, Phil!

So I don't know what I can do about TCP connections but I've given the BIOS a go.
I followed the link you provided. I can't see the V1.12 you're referring to. There's a 1.1 and after 1.9 it goes to 1.A. I've downloaded the latest release which is 1.D but it only provides a 1D0 file so I have no idea how to install it.

Have you had chance to read the BIOS update info here
