Hi,

My computer is not getting the FPS it should in games. I have a Geforce RTX 3060, Intel I7-11700F and 16 gb of Ram but I run CS:GO at 100-200 FPS on low settings. I have updated drivers, deleted bloatware ETC all the fixes I could find but nothing works. Does anyone have any idea why I am not getting the frames I should be getting?

Tried to play the game under a clean boot.

Download and run KillEmAll
Unzip it to your desktop.
Right click run As admin.
This will kill all non essential processes.
Including your browser, so save anything you are working on prior to running the tool.
Let us know if there is any change in the issue after using killemall.
 
Hi,

I did this, clicked Yes on all programs and ran CSGO. No change, same FPS hovering around 150FPS. What could it be? shoddy ram sticks?
 
Let's get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.


To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Please list your power supply unit (manufacturer and model)
 
Never heard of Lite-On before, can't find much info on them, I would consider investing in a new quality PSU before it causes damage to something expensive. A 700W 80+ Gold unit from a reputable manufacturer Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic would be a good investment regardless of if that's the problem or not.

I would uninstall Norton, Windows Defender + some common sense is adequate and won't gum up a system like other antivirus software is known to do.

Can you get me more info on your RAM? Speccy isn't providing much information.


This is my laundry list, it's a good starting point for troubleshooting and should get you an idea what's going on:
Pay attention to #2 and #4

1. Try running the following programs, also try to keep at least 25-30% of your disks as free space.

Run Disk Cleanup (check all the boxes) this will delete things such as your recycling bin, so make sure you don't have any files you want to keep.

Run Defragment and Optimize Drives, run this on your drives.



These will free up some space, but you may need to relocate/delete files to reach the suggested free space.



2. Disable any overclocking or changes to power/performance settings

Undo any overclocking you may have done (if any)

Settings > System > Power and sleep > Additional power settings
Make sure your power plan is set to balanced, high performance/ultimate performance is only beneficial on gaming laptops where it needs that extra boost.


3. Check for Operating System Corruption

Right click on the Windows logo in the bottom left and select Windows Powershell (Admin)
Run these three commands separately:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

These will take a while to run, do not close out of Powershell while they are running, if one fails then move onto the next and then loop back around.

Note: It doesn't hurt to make a system backup before you make all these changes, save any important files of folders. While these changes shouldn't cause any issues, better to be safe than sorry.


4. Unplug unnecessary devices.

If you have a gamepad, extra monitor, external hard drive/flash drive, or anything that is not essential to using the computer plugged in, unplug it.


Once you have completed all of these tasks, restart it (using the restart option in the power menu) and re-test.

Is this a custom built system or a prebuilt?

That PSU is a good one, but let's check a few other things first - could you please post an updated speccy for me?

That ram seems fine based on its specs, not exactly sure what your benchmark software is picking up on, could also be because of your board or improper memory installation - we'll go over that in a bit here.
 
You still have the antivirus installed and monitors of different refresh rates, did you follow the instructions in post #7?

Where do I uninstall it? I can;t find it in control panel or apps list. I tried testing it without my second monitor connected. Would the differing refresh rates still cause an issue?

Yes I dont have an FPS Max, it isn't just CSGO, Valorant, League, all games just aren't running very well
 
I've done some research and it sounds like getting a new power supply is the way to go, I will buy one of these and install it and update this forum with the results. Would you also suggest @Pyro to change out my Ram sticks? Or would a better power supply help my Ram perform better?
 
Your ram should by most definitions be fine, aside from being what appears to be direct-to-manufacturer memory. Unless you're doing crazy overclocking or anything like that I don't really think this would be causing an issue.

@phillpower2 is a RAM expert, let's see if he has any thoughts.
 
The RAM is fine and the poor FPS more likely to be caused by having multiple AVs installed + using a VPN, both will seriously affect an internet connection/online gaming, the rubbish Lite-On is a recipe for disaster and should be kept well away from any add on video card.
