Caveat - disable at your own discretion.
It's there for a reason. :)

Yes, it throws up some false positives, but when it does, it should show a message something like "this file has been blocked" and offer you an option to do what it says (block, delete, or similar) or ignore the warning and continue on regardless.

I've recently jump sides and have fully embraced Edge (never did I ever think it would be a one-stop-shop contender after being a Firefox/Brave stalwart for eons), which makes turning on/off SmartScreen easy.
