I've hit another problem. My c drive is a 1tb ssd. I partitioned half of it off and created a win 10 installation usb. However when i boot up and try to install win10 on the new partition i get a message saying
"windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an mbr partition tablr, on EFI systems windows can only be installed to gpt disks"
Highly annoying as i have no idea if i can just change the partition to a gpt type or not. Sorry to ask for more help but is there any way to do this? Thanks.
 
Convert MBR to GPT​

****NB this will wipe all data from the drive****
Boot from Win 10 install usb
When you get to the startup screen (pic attached)
Press Shift + F10 key
you should get a X:> prompt
What is in blue you type in red you do
e.g Enter press enter key

Diskpart enter
list disk enter
Select disk n enter (n=the disk you wish to convert)
clean enter
convert gpt enter
exit enter

exit enter
can you continue with the install now ?

*** ONLY HAVE ONE DRIVE INSTALLED WHEN INSTALLING WINDOWS***
 
Hi, i didm't want to format my present windows as i'm not 100% i could find all the files i need to back up. So i have the partition i am using now with everything installed and a seperate formatted blank 500gb partition. Can i create a 2nd windows install on the blank partition? and keep this older one? I'd down the line copy across files i want to keep and blow this one i'm using now if the new install solves my pc problems. I know best practice is for a single install on a drive but i thought it was ok to put 2 windows installs on a disk if i wanted.

This thread has been closed but i'd like to say thanks for your help. It was informative for me to see what you guys suggested. Eventaully i did buy a new ssd. My pc works normal on it so.
Something weird though, i rebooted into my old hard drive as i had some files to locate. Strangely... my pc is now working fine on my old ssd as well! i have no idea why this would be the case. The last step i tried on the previous thread was to step #19. i'd followed all the previous instructions. My old ssd was unplugged for about 5 days before i realised i needed files off it and i'm still using it now after a number of days and everything seems to be running ok.

Could someone paste this message in to thread 73743 if thats possible? as it may help someone in the future perhaps?

Thanks again for the time taken to trouble shoot for me, very much appriciated.
