Hello all
I need help with something that I don't understand correctly. I have 2 drives on Windows 10:
Primary OS drive C: on a 225gb SSD
Secondary drive D: a 1 tb HDD
(Out of 1tb, I have partitioned D drive and created a 125 gb partition for ubuntu.)
So here is what happened: My C drive has about 20 gb of free space left and I like to leave it at that. I usually do all my installations and storages on the D drive. My D drive had about 100 gb free space left. I had a huge skyrim mods folder of size above 110+ gbs on my D drive.
Now I wanted to get rid of the said 110+ gb mod files to free up space in my D drive. So I decided to delete the mod folder. The mistake I made was to use just "Delete" to delete the files from the D drive instead of "Shift + delete". Usually, when this happens the files go to the recycle bin and I can easily perm delete them from there. But this time things got messed up. The delete wizard/manager (whatever you call it) started assessing the total size of the files that were being deleted and I minimized it since it was going to take time to assess and delete. I didn't see any update from it for a long time and the mod folder was also no longer present on the D drive, so I assumed the files were successfully deleted. But when I went back to check the now freed up space, it wasn't there. The drive is still showing only 100 gb as available free space, where it should have shown around 210+ gb.
I waited for a bit thinking that the deletion process could still be going in the background, but nothing happened. I tried cleaning up the drive with windows built in "Disk Cleanup", which didn't solve anything. I tried restarting the system multiple times, again nothing happened.
I have no clue what happened, or where the files went. I am pretty sure the files are still present on the drive in some form. I really need help with fixing this issue and getting the space back.
I suspect that it had something to do with me using "Delete" instead of "Shift + Delete" to delete those files. When I tried to delete using "Delete", the Recycle Bin (which is on C drive with only 20 gb of free space) didn't had enough space hold the 110+ gb and something got messed up. But that is just my speculation.
Another thing that happened: I deleted some more stuff to see if the lost space would return. I "Shift + Delete" a 18 gb file fromt the D drive. It freed up the 18 gb space, but soon after I saw that the around 10 gb got used up on its own from no where.
Kindly help guys. This issue has been driving me nuts.
(Sorry for the long post, but I felt I needed to explain a lot)
