Games crashing all of the time

For the past year and a half or so, every game I have played so far has crashed or consistently crashes. I only get this while playing games. In every game, It freezes for a few seconds, and then goes to desktop, sometimes with an error message explaining the crash but most of the time it doesn't. I was able to get Halo Infinite running well for a while without crashing but I changed 3 settings recently and it started crashing. I changed the 3 settings back and still crashed. The crashes slowly got better and I haven't crashed again for a while now. However, other games still crash pretty frequently. Sometimes I can go a whole day or 2 or 3 without crashing, and sometime it will crash every 30 minutes to an hour or so. The games run fine aside from the crashing. I was thinking about getting a new GPU but honestly I am happy with the 1080ti performance aside from the crashing.

I have spent way too many hours online looking for fixes and am getting extremely overwhelmed because there are way too many videos and non-experts claiming to know what they are talking about because one particular thing fixed their issue 2 years ago. I'm hoping someone could walk me through some diagnostics tests I could do to help figure out what the problems is. I'm paying way too much for a PC to game, just to be crashing all the time.

Here is my parts list: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kLJLkJ](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kLJLkJ)

I did a windows memory diagnostics test and no error detected

Heaven benchmark 4.0 results: directx11 1920x1080

* FPS: 278.6
* Score: 7019
* quality: high
* tessellation: disabled

Notes:

* Most of the time all I have running along side the game is discord on my other monitor.
* games that have crashed: Halo Infinite, Delta Force, Marvel Rivals, Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter World, Civ 6.
* I have 1 intake fan on the front of PC at the bottom, and on in the back behind the CPU cooler and that's it,
* Delta Force crash said "faulty application path"
* When playing marvel rivels, my GPU usually sits at about 84-85 degrees.

Thanks in advance!

Let’s do a full workup of your system.
No personal data is published and everything shown is safe.

1) Download Speccy by Piriform.
In Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
Paste that link into your post. Is Speccy safe?

2) Download GetSystemInfo by Kaspersky.
In GSI, click Start. (takes about 10mins)
It makes a ZIP file on your desktop, drag that to their GSI Parser site.
Once analysed, paste the newly created URL into your post.

3) Download MiniToolBox by Farbar.
In MTB, tick List Installed Programs, click Go then close the program.
A file MTB.txt is created in the same folder, attach that to your post.

4) No software interrogates the Power Supply Unit so list the make/model and age.

5) Go to www.speedtest.net and screenshot your network speeds.

Sorry I'm late to respond. I didn't check as often because I figured it got passed over. Here is all the info:

1) http://speccy.piriform.com/results/VE4WKvdyk5LQymgTqU3RpPp
2) I'm a little nervous about sharing this one. It seems to have a TON of information on the link. You said it doesn't include personal information but this provides file names, some of which have my name on it. Is there another way we can get the info you need?
3) file attached
4) EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G1 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply. I got it in 2016

Just to square off on the personal info front....
And believe me, no malice is implied or inferred. :)

The info gleamed from the reports in no way can come back to haunt you, yes it will show your username and PC name (for example) but if people are 'big brother is watching me' concerned, then maybe don't use your real name.
And to be brutally honest, if nervous, don't use anything connected to the internet. (y)
Any other info, like LAN IP address is of no use to anyone not on your network, and the WAN IP address is already publicly available.
In other words, someone needs to be on your PC, or what you think is private is already in the wild.

Security has to be paired with convenience, increasing one negatively impacts the other.
But I digress....,

From Speccy;
  • Western Digital MyBook has SMART status of bad - disconnect that and any other unneeded drive (like the flash drive) and see if that helps
  • C:\ drive is down to 18% free, while not currently critical, that value may decrease during gaming, or updates, etc, as temp files/caches temporarily change
  • In BIOS, turn off XMP mode. Your memory is 4800 which is the highest non-OC speed your mobo handles, so XMP may not be benefitting you anyways

The MTB report wasn't attached.
The GetSystemInfo report isn't critical, it covers mostly what Speccy shows, with a few more inclusions.

OK I understand. Here is the link: https://www.getsysteminfo.com/report/322b1a1506514038e5dce302da3adfad
I also reattached the MTB file.

I didn't have enough room so I had downloaded a game onto my old SATA SSD (PNY) which had plenty of room and still crashed. Would that game still be affected by the 18% free drive??

I know a lot of people don't like to recommend certain products on forums like this but do you have a suggestions for an M.2 drive that I can use just for gaming? I've read you don't need anything special and want to get a 2TB. Either that, or I just use my old SATA SSD

I am going to try what you suggest and see if there are any crashes. I plan on running a HWinfo document each time I game to have on file if it continues to crash.

I appreciate your help!

For some reason, your attachment still isn't showing.

As to the game being effected running with 18% free space - hard to say, would all depend on what happens to the free space while gaming, like does the game use the space for maps, temp files, whatever. And while gaming, Windows is still doing its thing - updates, background tasks, system management, etc.

As to M2 recommendations, I go for anything Samsung branded, they have had a solid name in that space for ages.
That's not to say another brand wouldn't be as good, or better, it's just that I have used Samsung a lot and never been disappointed.

Also, the latest BIOS for you mobo is Sept 2024, yours is March 2023 so that may be worth getting.
They have improved DDR5 memory, Intel processor, upgraded the microcode, and addressed vulnerabilities.

GSI showed a lot of system errors.
Try these from an elevated command prompt;
- chkdsk c: /r
- sfc /scannow
- dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

I misspoke. What I'm wondering is that if it was a problem with my main M.2 drive (c:), then could it still cause crashing for a game that is installed on my SATA drive (PNY, F:). When I downloaded the game on the SATA drive, it still crashed, so my logic would say that it can't be a the M.2 problem, but I may be wrong.

Weird that It still isn't attaching... want me to paste the text?

Is updating the bios the same as updating other drivers or is it a different process? I saw that there was a new one but read that it can lead to more complications.

I tried chkdsk c: /r and it said the following
"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)"

sfc /scannow: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth:
"The restore operation completed successfully.
The operation completed successfully."

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase
"The operation completed successfully."

yep, pasting will be fine. (y)

Say Y to the CHKDSK question.

No, updating the BIOS is not the same, and can be dangerous but only if you interrupt the process.
I've personally never had one brick my system

You have a Gigabyte motherboard, so go to their website, not only for the BIOS version for your mobo but also download their BIOS update software called @BIOS.
Run @BIOS and it'll ask for the downloaded firmware file.

Should.... be that easy.

Everywhere I look it says that @bios is a target for malware and bloatware and that I should always use Q-Flash.

Btw, I’m trying to access this forum on my PC, which is where I’ve been posting from, and now it says the site can’t be reached because it took too long to respond?

It’s saying my IP is temporarily blocked by your IDS??? It did this after I tried pasting my MTB file.

Edit: seems to be working now. What is that all about?

Probably due to too many failed attempts at pasting that file - it is a security measure

As to updating your BIOS, whatever method rocks your boat.
Q-Flash will work, bit more user intervention but fine.
@BIOS does a lot of the work for you.
Haven't used @BIOS for ages, but as long as you get it form the Gigabyte site, I see no issues.
