Hey all,

In mid-November, I built a new PC. The specs are as follows:

Ryzen 5 3600
b450 Tomahawk Max
2x8gb ddr4 Corsair Vengeance LPX
Evga 550 B3

I then moved over my GPU from my old PC which is a 1070ti (which is only a year old) along with my SSDs.

Everything was working fine for the first few weeks and now, all of a sudden, I'm having a lot of issues. Firstly sometimes when I first boot the PC everything is in 360p like the Nvidia drivers haven't loaded, if I wait for about 2-3 minutes they then kick in, the screen flashes off and everything is correct.

Once I'm on and using the PC sometimes (and usually only within the first hour of turning it on) I get the screen flicking off for a few seconds then flicking back on. Before this happens if I'm watching a video I'll lose audio and the video starts playing in slow motion, If I'm browsing a webpage my mouse icon will freeze in place.

I'm really confused as to what could be causing this. I don't think its the monitor as the PC actually seems like it freezes up briefly before flickering on and off. I should state as well. To rule out software and driver conflicts I did a completely fresh install of windows and formatted my drives and today I've had the same issues.

Any help is appreciated, I'm feeling defeated atm. Thanks.
 
Make sure that all of your modular cables are securely connected to the hardware and PSU + try reseating your RAM.

If the problem persists after doing the above, try booting into Safe Mode only, test then post back with an update.

Hey, sorry for late reply. Because my issue arises on a cold boot from being off overnight I couldn't really test it properly until I had tried it over 2 days.

So since turning off the A-XMP, I've had 2 different outcomes, but thankfully none of the screen flashing on and off. That seems to have stopped. On the first cold boot my PC powered on but nothing was posting to the monitor. I turned it off and back on and everything worked fine for the rest of the day. Today's cold boot started fine and loaded fine but again the Nvidia drivers took about a minute to kick in but after they did everything has been working as normal.

I'll continue to test it this week. If I start to have issues again I'll try reseating the RAM as I've already been through the PC checking all the power connectors are in properly.

I'll update you a little later again.

Everything seems to be running smoothly now. I guess it was the overclock on the RAM. The RAM is capable so no idea why it was causing issues.

In case you are not aware, RAM has two speeds, the SPD Speed (serial presence detect) which is what the BIOS will detect and the Tested Speed which is what the manufacturer has tested and had the RAM running in a stable condition, problem is that for the end user to get the tested speed things have to be overclocked and this is where things can go wrong, if any variable is not right you get issues such as the dreaded BSOD.
