Hi I've got a DVR that I have (up until now) been able to access my recordings on using my PC (windows 7). The PC and the DVR are in the same room, along with the router. All I needed to do was enter the IP address of the DVR in to firefox/chrome etc and I had access to all my recordings. I could do this either via wi-fi or ethernet cable.

Now however for no reason, whenever I enter the IP address I get the error "connection failed". Why is this happening? So far I've tried the following with no success;
- Cleared the IP address from cookies and cache
- Created a new user on my Windows 7 PC and tried to access the IP address.
- Reset the DVR so it forgets the wi-fi settings and re-connected it to the wifi/ ethernet.
- Reset the DVR and router so that the end digit on the IP address changes.
- Used different browsers.
- Entered the IP address followed by a / symbol (as I've found sometimes it wont connect without using ending with a /)
- Checked network and shared devices in control panel to see if the DVR is visible. It is there but I dont know which of the options (if any) I should troubleshoot. When I right click I get a MAC address, unique identifier and IP address. Theres nothing in there that can be changed.

The DVR still works without any issues as a DVR, so theres no signs that it has gone faulty.

I'm running out of solutions and I dont understand why suddenly the network/ DVR will not connect. Any ideas?

Your C and D drives are overcrowded.
You need to remove items so you have at least 15%, better still 20% free space. You don't even have 1% free on both drives.
Drive C needs 74GB free space and drive D needs 66GB free space for starters.

thanks. Didnt think that would have affected being able to access the IP address. I've been transferring a lot of files off a portable HDD that seems to be dieing so I've been running out of local HD space. I'll try this solution now. Seemed to be working fine last week when I had about 15GB free

Hey @dodohelp :)

Your TCP/IP stack is corrupted. Please do the following to repair it :)

1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. For Windows 8 users, press [Windows Key] + [X] and select Command Prompt (Admin).

2. When in the command prompt, enter:

Code:
netsh winsock reset catalog
and press ENTER.

Step_1.png

3. Once you've entered that, next enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
and press ENTER.

step_2.png

4. Reboot your computer. This is necessary for the TCP/IP Stack to be successfully reset.

It's also highly possible one of your security programs is blocking ports and inbound connections to the PC hence the "Connection failed" message. Have you tried disabling MBAM, HM Pro, AVG, and PeerBlock and seeing if it persists?

Hi is there a way to disable the programs you've listed above? I've started some up but cant find disable. Would it be quicker to kill them like one would use CTRL ALT DEL to kill an unresponsive program. If so, how can I do this? I think the solution of disabling these will be a longshot however as I've had them on this computer for approx 18 months and theres never been any issues with connecting to the external DVR via wifi or ethernet

Also, the TCP/IP Stack reset has not made a difference :(

The easiest way to close any anti-virus is to go into your System Tray/Notification Area on the bottom right. You can then see which AntiVirus programs are currently open. From there you right click the program > and then depending on which program it is that you use, you would click close/ turn off protection/ exit etc etc.

While these programs may have not caused a problem in the past, that can easily change with updates. As history has shown, one bad/botched update can equal all sorts of problems. Look at happened with Webroot recently. Just about every AntiVirus at one point in time has had bad patches and have caused major system issues. So the easiest way to test is to disable any active protection program :).

Have you tried to access the DVR with another computer or perhaps your smartphone?

Disabled them but didnt affect it at all

Good idea. I've tried it with my phone and get the same error "connection failed"

It would seem there is an issue with the DVR, only way to confirm that is to take it to a friends house and try and see if there is an issue with your network. If it were me that would be the next logical step to try.
