Its happening on firefox and chrome. It will say "checking to see if connection is secure". Then a box pops up with a checkmark saying its secure but instead of connecting it goes right back to checking to see if connection is secure. Thanks for any help.

Windows vista i think. One site that wont work is www.politicalhotwire.com. as an example. It wont work in firefox or chrome but oddly enough i found an old internet explorer and it connects there. Other websites dont work as well. Most do work.

If running Windows does the same happen with Edge?
Are you running any third party antivirus &/or VPN?
Is there any error code?

I dont have Edge. I have free Avast anti-virus but i tried disabling it and that didnt do anything. Most sites work but the ones that wont load just say, "checking to see if connection is secure" then it says connection secure with a check mark but it still doesnt connect. There is 1 site that gives this error code. Its the only one.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_PROTOCOL_VERSION_ALERT

Chrome is not supported with Vista and you may be able to use this version of firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/23.0/system-requirements/

Edit: these versions of browsers may work as well.

  • Opera – Integrated VPN
  • Slim Browser – Weather forecast included
  • Midori Browser – Clean user interface
  • UR Browser – Built-in virus scanner
  • K-Meleon Browser – Highly customizable
  • Maxthon – Advanced security features
  • Falkon Browser – Supports multiple platforms

Yes the link i sent does have a download link at the bottom of the page..

Thanks, when i get home from work i will give it a try. When it downloads will it wipe out the bookmarks i have now in firefox and will the passwords still be saved?

If you still have issues, please run this tool.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop.

Please post the log in your next reply

Opera requires windows 7 or later. If you could, post the mini tool box log, so I can see what is going on with your connection.

Could you tell me how to post the mini too log box? If you mean the toolbox at the top of the page i clicked downloads and it has operasetup.exe 2.7mb at 432 pm. Thats when i started the download

The download itself has #1 wait for your download to finish with a green arrow down to num2 run file too install opera. The num 2 is in a pulsing circle. i guess that means its downloading

I did just read where someone said it can take 6-8 hours but only 8 mins using google. Can i do that?

The instructions for mini toolbox are in post 11.

Thanks. My comp is rather old. im going to see if the opera download works first. 2 downloads at once might lock me up.

Ok, we can work on speeding it up a bit. There is no reason that is should take more than ten minutes even with 5mbs

How can we speed it up? Its still downloading or at least i assume it is. The number 2 circle is still pulsating.
