Hi everyone.
I’m in need of some advice, and thanks in advance for helping.

-So I have an SSD with OS plus HDD for storage.
My HDD turns off if not in use for some time to save lifespan. It starts up again every now and then OR when in use.

When it starts up again, the screen freezes which all takes 5 seconds, and then it’s back to normal.

However, sometimes after HDD starts up again, the monitor goes black, and loses connection, which is usually followed by a restart of PC. I checked event viewer and I think bugchecker turns my PC off.

What can I do about this? Thanks.
 
in your Power Options in Control Panel, under your current plan (Balanced or High or what have you), click Change plan settings, then Change advanced power settings, and see what is set for Hard disk.

Oh yes. I see. I have high performance for HDD. It is also set to turn off after 20 minutes, if that’s relevant.

Thanks, Im sure it will stop causing issues. However, will that reduce the lifespan of the disk if I don’t allow to stop or sleep?
 
I've never had, seen, or heard of a HDD bearing going pear-shaped.
read/write heads - hell yes, but they are controlled by the hard drive itself and have their own actuator motor.
putting the drive to sleep just saves the bearing, and the miniscule amount of power needed to run the drive's motor.

back in the day, these were stepper motors I believe, these spindle motors are now brushless 3 phase motors with fluid bearings.
in other words, designed and built to be run 24/7.
