OK so the good news is that is an unrelated issue. Seems like DX12 with metro and v-sync off causes hanging. just played for nearly 2 hours issue free. My apologies for being dramatic, its been a long week. I now also remember why I brought xbox for the last 9 years...
Still 2 hours of solid gaming without issue.. doesn't tend towards a power supply issue, which is what i thought it might be..
