Going to Dell's site, the versions of Windows supported on the OptiPlex 755 is XP and Vista. What are you running?

Someone else posted at another forum that the computer does not have Bluetooth. I'm trying to figure out if this is true or not.

Here is another site that shows it does not come with Bluetooth https://www.engadget.com/products/dell/optiplex/755/specs/
Note the OS is Vista not Windows 7.

It is a 10 year old computer that came with 1GB of RAM. It has 4 slots http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compa...es-(desktop-mini-tower-and-small-form-factor)
if it is a desktop, small form factor or mini form factor.

It has 2 slots if it is an ultra small form factor http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compa...optiplex-755-series-(ultra-small-form-factor)

Thanks for the info..I bought the computer a couple of years ago from Best Buy..knew it was a refurbished computer,,( but not that old)...it had 4 g am and Win 7 Pro loaded..I just never played with blue tooth before but decided to give it a try..whenj it wouldn't work started reading...saw that Win 7 had problems with blue tooth... tried the help forms from Microsoft..nothing worked...so ended up here where I have always been successful...but this time I am about at wits end on the problem..as I said earlier in a post.. I am 75 yrs old so not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this stuff.. ..
I was told that all I needed was to use a blue tooth adapter ..the device manager shows all the right things checked and every thing will pair..just not connect..
again thank you and the others for the help..

I'll be 70 myself in a few months.
You posted you are using a Broadcom adapter but when I search for a model BCA20702AO, the only hit i get is this post. Are you sure that is the model?

I'll search to see what drivers, if any are offered.

I found a BCM20702 and found this
https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth

Windows drivers for Broadcom Bluetooth devices are no longer posted here. They should be available through Microsoft's Windows Update service.

Is this what you have?

I'm reading the 1 star reviews and people can't seem to pair anything with it.
OK...told I was flaky..I am not sure where I got the umber...but I have two adapters..( I went to my orders and got the #s) Kinivo BTD 300 and Linkpal 4.0..I have tried both and neighter works.. I have run the hardware/driver updates with Microsoft...
Thanks

there are only 8 reviews. For 50% it works and for the other 50%, it doesn't work.

I download the manual and I'm reading through.

Before you start, it says to do the following:
Please remove any previous version of Bluetooth software that may exist in your system.
The removal procedure is as follows
Step 1: Click Start/Settings, then select Control Panel
Step 2: In the Control Panel window, double click Add/Remove programs icon
Step 3: Locate the program WIDCOMM or any other Bluetooth Software and remove it

Have you done this?

Once that is done you can install the driver either from the CD or from a website.
Post which method you prefer.

I know you guys didn't want to hear from me again unless it was a good one <G> BUT
Have done everything you suggested on both adapters... and to no avail..It does seem to make them work better and now stay connected when the green check is on...but..nothing in the earphones or the mouse still doesn't work..It does give an error mgs..and when I looked them up it is a driver problem..
Question..these are cheap adapters (4-5$nrange) Do have any suggestions on an adapter I can get from Microsoft or Dell that might work ? I can always return them..Just an idea..
Thanks,

Sorry, I don't install Bluetooth if it is not internal to the computer. So I'd have no idea what works well and what doesn't. I have 1 computer out of 8 in the house and 2 tablets with bluetooth. I bought 2 bluetooth keyboards to use with the tablets.

One day, I paired one of the keyboards with the Windows 7 laptop just to see how it would go. It was easy to do.

My advice, forget trying to get Bluetooth working on a 10 year old computer that originally came with XP or Vista and was upgraded to another version of Windows.

Thanks....I agree 100%.. I guess I knew that all along but was hoping for the best as your fine group has always come through in the past..
At 75 I can live with out it and I am sure not going to buy a new one if this one gives up to the blue screen I have a smart phone and Kindle HD that can do anything I need from a computer...
Again , thanks for your help and patience ...keep up the good work..
Consider this one closed..

It's quite possible your device is faulty. Bluetooth adapters do fail, and it can cause the issues you're experiencing. A new one is cheap and is plug and play, meaning you simply plug it into a USB port, install the latest drivers for it, and then enable it

If you don't want to buy a new one, then it's probably best to just leave it Bluetooth-less.
