Blank blue screen and nothing else

Crossed wires perhaps as you mention a socket whereas what I am referring to is a button on a TVs handset called the Source button, when pressed on my TV it gives various options one of them being PC - VGA, if I wanted to run my computer through the TV I would have to select that option first, your TV and handset options may differ but the TV will need to know where it is looking for a signal.

As said already, getting your PC running correctly should be done first, no good trying to troubleshoot a TV screen without a stable computer.

On some TV's there are more than one HDMI ports have you checked them all to see if you get a screen.

Since you stated that the Monitor works keep it connected and attach the TV. No just cycle through the monitors by pressing the Windows Key and P.

The Windows key + P combination opens this handy toolbar:

Computer only is the default option–and the name says it all.
Duplicate clones your screen to a connected secondary display, monitor or projector.
Extend expands the desktop so you can make room for extra windows.
Projector only turns off your laptop's LCD and turns the projector into your monitor.

Thank you, I did exactly what I was doing before with the hdmi but yeah with the old monitor plugged in suddenly the TV works again. Ideally the tv would work as a monitor without having the old monitor plugged in but this is ok for now

While you have both up go through the Display configuration and make sure that they are showing the correct order. From the sounds of it is reading the Monitor as #1 and the TV as #2. @phillpower2 it has been a while since I have done dual monitors.
You might try once it is booted up disconnecting the Monitor and see if the TV stays working. If it does then try a complete shutdown and reboot see if it comes back up.

Have you had this PC and TV set up working together before albeit without the CRT monitor also hooked up.

Edit to add: Is the same display replicated on both screens if you for example put a picture up or a play a video etc.

As an asides, good to see that you are making progress with this btw, who said "" too many cooks spoil the broth" :)

Yes, I have had the PC and TV working together without the monitor also plugged in before. It was working fine until my girlfriend powered off the PC as described in my opening post. Yes the same display is replicated on both screens if I go to monitor settings and tell it to replicate.
 
Not going to be around for a few days so will need to leave you in the more than capable hands of Rustys (y)

You have gone from having no display at all when you initially post here on PCHF to now having two active displays to compare your stocks and shares on :)
