Hello Roger, Grandson is doing very well thank you. He is 5 months old today, getting teeth and trying to crawl. He has his Grandmother captivated so he gets spoiled.

Deselecting the 4 options you have marked with arrows should be all that's needed to turn realtime protection off.

Please left click on the attached Fixlist.txt file at the bottom of this post. On the dialogue box that opens click "Save File" and then "OK"

Select a location then save the file to the desktop. IMPORTANT the fixlist.txt file must be in the same location as the FRST program otherwise the fix will not work.

This fix was created for this users computer only and the use of it on another machine may render that machine unusable.

To run the fix right click the FRST icon and choose "Run as Administrator" then click on "Fix"

Depending on the amount of data to be moved it may take a few minutes to complete, and the computer may reboot. When the fix is complete and/or the computer has rebooted the "Fixlist.txt" file you created will be renamed "Fixlog.txt"

Please COPY and PASTE the contents of this new file in your next post

That Google pop-up doesn't appear to be popping up anymore.
Do you know what the problem was?

BTW Gus, I have turned off Real Time Protection (Malwarebytes) as you said (all four items)

(Give it 3 or 4 days and I will report back, hopefully we can sign off as solved)

The Google pop-up seems to have gone away.

Bitdefender is still playing up.(as in first post). Unable to switch it back on.
Sometimes it is showing "Your device is at risk" - if I shut down PC and log in again - it generally shows that "Your device is protected". (but not always).

Obviously not an ideal situation.

Suggest you uninstall and reinstall Bitdefender. Use Revo or Geek uninstaller.

Unistalled Bitdefender with Geek.
Re-installed Bitdefender.
Part way through re-installation Bitdefender advised me to uninstall Malwarebytes (incompatibility etc - can't remember exact wording)
Uninstalled Malwarebytes with Geek.
Carried on installing Bitdefender carefully following instructions.

Still playing up!!!!???

I would try removing Malwarebytes and suggest again you use Zemana instead. If that doesnt work remove Bitdefender and install Avast free. I think you have it on your desktop as a link.

Also your computer would certainly benefit from a reinstall of Windows 7.

Malwarebytes uninstalled as per my previous post.
Zemana was uninstalled a while ago as it cropped up as incompatible whilst installing Bitdefender.

How complicated is a reinstall of Win7?
Can win7 be reinstalled without starting from scratch? (i.e. without disturbing existing programs/files etc?)

That is odd. the Zemana I recommended some time back was the free version that would not have been running when you tried to install any programs???? It was to be used as a second opinion scanner which is all the free version does. Great scanner.

It is not difficult to reinstall Windows 7 and yes you will lose everything. A clean install is much better than trying to repair an old install. Just do be sure to backup all your pics, music and other files you want to keep. You could also do an image backup to an external drive, which would allow you access to anything else you have forgotten about that you may need later.

Do you have your original CD?

Not too happy/confident about doing a complete reinstall at the moment - maybe later.
Yes , I do have the original installation disks - 64 bit and 32 bit.
I haven't installed Avast yet as Bitdefender is behaving itself at the moment??
All stuff deleted from desktop.

Bitdefender is still playing up so I have uninstalled using Geek and installed Avast.

As I write this, Avast full scan has been running for over 4 hours and is only on 3% so I have cancelled the scan.
Any comments?

Suggest you try running Avast after a reboot, also make sure there is no other security app running. Also it is not uncommon with the default Avast settings for it to take an extended period of time to scan the first time Avast does a full scan. This is because subsequent scans wont have to scan some files previously scanned. Set it to scan overnight.

Did a full system scan with Avast on startup this morning and it took about 70-75 minutes - happy with that.
I think we can mark this one as solved.
