I recently compiled a large photo album and copied all the pics from my PC onto a Kingston Data Traveler 128GB USB stick. However, when I tried to view the photos many could not be viewed due to the PS4 telling that 'the media cannot be viewed'. They can be viewed perfectly normally on my PC and my External HD. Most of these images are jpeg so why can't they be viewed on the PS4's Media Player ?

USB Stick Problem or Media Player Problem ?

Is the drive formatted as FAT32?
PS systems have to have a specific folder structure:
Create a PS4 folder.
Photos must be placed in a folder named Photos within the PS4 folder.
Same with Music (folder named Music) & Movies (folder named Movies).

I really don't know if the USB Stick is formatted as FAT32 or not. How would I know that ? How do I find out ? So all I have to do is change the folder name from 'Image Albums' to 'PS4' ? Can't be that simple surely ?
The top directory needs to be PS4 (or any name really) & as long as the created folder within this top folder is named Music it should work. Unless the USB isn’t of the correct format.

The USB is FAT32. Thing is, why would I want to name a photos and images folder 'Music' ??? And what is 'top directory' ? Please excuse my ignorance.
Sorry, that was an example. Let me be clearer.
You would open the USB & see a PS4 folder, double click on this & create a folder named Photos in which you store your picture files.
If you wanted to store Music files on the USB to play them on the PS4 then within the PS4 folder you’d create a Music folder & place the music within this folder.
Same with any videos you wish to view on the PS4, under the PS4 folder you’d create a Movies folder & place the video files within this folder.

OK. My photo albums/folders are many and are named e.g. Art & Photography, World War Two, Cars & Bikes, Scotland, Golden Era of Hollywood, Space, Animals and many many more. So let me get this clear, I create a folder and name it 'PS4' and within that folder there should be another folder named 'Photos' and all my photos should go there. Can I copy all my folders with their respective titles/names into the photos folder or do I have to add the photos without the titles/folders, i.e. photos on their own without the existing folders ?
The PS4 is up to date. The PS4 Media Player is unable to read many of the files. The files are in various folders according to subject matter. Can you please answer my previous question ?Is the PS4 software up to date?

On a unused USB drive you would create a PS4 folder.
Within this folder you would create a Music folder. Wishing this Music folder you add your music files.
You can also create a Photos folder under the PS4 folder & add your photos to this Photos folder.

Yes I get that but as I have already asked do I have to add the photos WITHOUT their existing folders ?
