Solved Stop printing unwanted copies

@ Rustys :

The extra pages printed are copies from page 1.

I think I have removed the HP Laserjet 1022n (Kopie 1), but it appeared back at the tail of the list.

Now there is no more option to remove the device. Right-mouse clicking does not cause a context menu to appear. However, after restarting the PC, the printer has vanished.

I stop the Print Spooler service.
I open the folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\printers and it is empty. So I don’t delete anything.
I restart the Print Spooler service.
I restart the PC.
C:\Windows\System32\spool\printers is still empty.
In Notepad and in LibreOffice all the HP printers are gone.

I go to ‘Apparaten en printers’ and click ‘Een printer toevoegen’.
I click that the printer I want is not in the list.
I choose the Generic / Text Only printer :

I click ‘Volgende’ and choose to replace the current driver.

The test page prints fine once.
Printing from Notepad using Generic / Text only prints fine once.
Printing from LibreOffice using Generic / Text only prints a blank page once.

Are you suggesting that LibreOffice is preventing the printer to be installed correctly ?
No
I suppose I can. Why would I do that ?
To see if it fixes this
Printing from LibreOffice using Generic / Text only prints a blank page once.

All I can do is suggest the steps I would take if this was a system I was working on or my own system.
We cannot say our advise will always fix things. It is a case of experience and guessing

Printing from OpenOffice using Generic / Text only prints incorrectly once.

I reinstall LibreOffice.
I try to print from LibreOffice the same text as from OpenOffice and only a blank page is printed once.

Printing from Foxit Reader using Generic / Text only prints a blank page once.
Printing from IntelliJ using Generic / Text only prints a blank page once.

So, printing from
Notepad : good
LibreOffice : bad
OpenOffice : bad
Foxit Reader : bad
IntelliJ : bad

The Generic / Text only printer doesn’t try to print extra pages.

I have installed HP Smart already, but apparently it can be run from the Microsoft Store without installing. Maybe that way it will work.
Online HP Smart fails to find the printer automatically.
It also fails to find the printer with the IP address.

I restart the PC.
The online HP Smart still fails.
The installed HP Smart can’t find the printer either.

I do a clean boot.
The installed HP Smart still can’t find the printer. I didn’t try the online one.
I reboot normally.

apologies if this has already been suggested and tried (I'm not going to skim read 50 posts when it's just as fast to re-suggest) but at this stage have you tried taking the printer to another PC and using the driver from the HP website for it, here; https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...p-1200-printer-series/22955699/model/30334720

expand the Drivers section, then the Basic Drivers section under that to see the driver.

I'm just thinking that the current PC is a wasteland of different drivers now and perhaps nothing will work until the rig is nuked from space! :)
(just my thoughts)

@Bruce :
What do you mean with “taking the printer to another PC”? The printer works from a Mac. It also worked on this PC before Windows was reinstalled. I have an old Windows 7 PC that requires 25 minutes to boot from which I could try to print. It also works on this PC via USB.

The HP Neverstop Laser MFT 1200n is a different printer. Mine is a HP LaserJet 1022n.

I meant physically taking the HP to another PC to verify the printer is fine.
and it seems to be, although another Windows PC would be a better test, as the Mac would have it's own driver version.

if you get the printer working on another PC it hasn't been connected to before, using the HP driver, then you could reasonably expect that same setup to work on a PC that has had Windows freshly reinstalled.

one thing we have not checked
Open the cmd prompt and either type or copy and paste

what is in Blue. What is in Red is what you do e.g Enter (Press the Enter key)

Either type or copy and paste what is in Blue. What is in Red is what you do e.g Enter (Press the Enter key)

ipconfig /all >"%userprofile%\desktop\ipconfig.txt" Enter

This should put a text file on your desktop. Please attach the file in your reply.

PeterOz: “It all works ok via usb? “

I don’t know. It worked, but I have not extensively tested. See posts 4 and 37.

The printer has worked on the Windows 7 PC as a network printer. How would connecting it physically to the Windows 7 PC add information ?

There is also an isolated Windows 7 PC to which the printer could be connected. The driver would have to be brought there by other means than downloading.

I typed in the command prompt
ipconfig /all >"C:\\users\Knarf\desktop\icponfig.txt"
The result is attached.
