I intend to replace the keyboard on my laptop. However I am worried about breaking anything when I lift the keyboard out I hear you have to unlock it at the top with a flat screwdriver. I am worried about breaking these locks. I would first unscrew it at the back.

This method is rarely used nowadays.
Most modern keyboard require removal of the base enclosure (bottom part) first.
What kind of laptop are we talking about?

Search for "Maintenance" or "Service Guide".
