yeah Ive been doing this for a very long time if you look on the web you can usually find what you need.

but this hp laptop is fighting me all the way. its up and running and on the internet but still shows some problems in device manager.
 
I use a special reg file to install around 20 custom tweaks and change a number of other setting all my own that most dont know.

If HP recommends removing the battery, it is best to follow that advice. It might be necessary for safety, especially if you're working on internal components. But if you have a non-removable battery, just make sure the laptop is completely turned off and everything should be fine.
