Solved PC freezes up when Alt Tab out of games and in Netflix App

so I don't know whats going on but some weird stuff has happened lately with my pc. It started when one day I couldn't change from my Speakers to my Headphone on the fly like when I remove my speakers from the pc and put in my headphones it will be recognized but won't show up in audio settings and I have to restart my pc for it to work.

(I do this because I only have one audio input working on my pc)

Then the next day my PC suddenly starts to completely freeze up for like 20sec when I either try to Alt+Tab out of a game or on accident change the system volume with my mouse my pc starts to freeze, stutters and the audio gets insanely choppy for like 20sec until it normalizes.

(my 2 side mouse buttons are mapped with system vol up/down and when I click that button the small windows ui pops up that shows the volume bar on the bottom when that happens my pc starts to freeze up, stutters and the audio gets butchered)

I really don't know whats causing this problem I tried to reinstall my audio drivers and my Windows is up to date.

System info:

Ryzen 7 3700x , 16 GB DDR4 3200mhz, RX 6650 XT, Windows 11

g'day and welcome to the forums!

two quick tests....

try booting the PC into Safe Mode and see if things change, and the other, create another user account and sign in with that new profile and see what happens.

Hello and thank you!
Well about the safe mode thing I'm a bit unsure since I can't really reproduce the situation since alot of features are missing but opening a game made my pc stutter a bit and audio was completely chopped up but I couldn't really test it since the mouse buttons to higher or lower the volume didn't work. Also even starting safe mode with network for some reason didn't allow internet access so I couldn't really test it.
Creating another profile didn't change anything.. same problems happened there.

OK, that would suggest the problem is hardware rather than software.
let's get your complete PC specs.
get Speccy from here; https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds

in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into a post.

One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so please also include the make/model of the PSU.

Download and run KillEmAll
Unzip it to your desktop.
Right click run As admin.
This will kill all non essential processes.
Including your browser, so save anything you are working on prior to running the tool.
Let us know if there is any change in the issue after using killemall.

Speccy seems to report ram as single sticks even in dual channel configurations, hence the 3200MHz ram you have is reported at 1600MHz. Not really sure why or how, but we can confirm your ram speeds by hitting CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, selecting more details, performance, and then screenshotting what is going on under the RAM tab.

This is my laundry list, it's a good starting point for troubleshooting and should get you an idea what's going on:

1. Try running the following programs, also try to keep at least 25-30% of your disks as free space.

Run Disk Cleanup (check all the boxes) this will delete things such as your recycling bin, so make sure you don't have any files you want to keep.

Run Defragment and Optimize Drives, run this on your drives.

2. Disable any overclocking or changes to power/performance settings

Undo any overclocking you may have done (if any)

Settings > System > Power and sleep > Additional power settings
Make sure your power plan is set to balanced, This is my laundry list, it's a good starting point for troubleshooting and should get you an idea what's going on:

Settings > System > Power and sleep > Additional power settings
Make sure your power plan is set to balanced, high performance/ultimate performance is only beneficial on gaming laptops where it needs that extra boost.

3. Check for Operating System Corruption

Right click on the Windows logo in the bottom left and select Windows Powershell (Admin)
Run these three commands separately:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

These will take a while to run, do not close out of Powershell while they are running, if one fails then move onto the next and then loop back around.

Note: It doesn't hurt to make a system backup before you make all these changes, save any important files of folders. While these changes shouldn't cause any issues, better to be safe than sorry.

4. Unplug unnecessary devices.

If you have a gamepad, extra monitor, external hard drive/flash drive, or anything that is not essential to using the computer plugged in, unplug it.

Once you have completed all of these tasks, restart it (using the restart option in the power menu) and re-test.

What headset do you have, do you have software to control it? (Corsair iCUE, Razer Synapse, Logitech G-Hub, etc)

I don't really know which window you want to see a screenshot of but my ram shows as 3200mhz in bios.
1 .
did both the system is relatively new so it didn't take long and it didn't help sadly.

2.
I did a reset since I indeed overclocked my GPU but nothing really changed same with power settings.

3.
Did all 3 and the first 2 said that theres nothing missing /no problem and the third one just finished and nothing changed.

4.
I don't really have anything unecessary connected just keyboard, mouse, headset, mic, and my screen. Disconnecting my headset and mic don't change anything

I did these things and restarted and it didn't help sadly..
My Headset is a Sennheise gsp 600 as far as I know it's plug n play kind of and doesn't need extra drivers. Razer Synapse runs because of my mouse though.

Have you run Sfc & dism?
Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:
SFC /SCANNOW
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Maybe this is a piece of information that could help:
A friend of mine wanted to show me something just earlier and sent me a mp4 and when I opened it same result :
-my friend couldn't hear me anymore in discord neither did I hear him,
-PC stuttered froze repeatedly
-audio completely chopped up distorted and laggy

same happens if I try to watch trailers in the xbox app or tab out of a game
could it be that something in the registry could cause this or anything that has something to do with the audio?

Fixed the problem. I went into safemode and deinstalled my realtek and gpu drivers with ddu again and after a restart everything worked for some reason again. Thanks to anyone who was trying to help me though!
