This is an odd issue. I'm not really sure what is causing it, but I do know what is fixing it, and I know what the problem is. So, I guess I will start there...

I use an HP Omen laptop for gaming on my TV in my bedroom. The laptop has Win 11, 32 GB RAM, 13th gen i7, and an RTX 4070. I have this laptop hooked up to a Roku TV with an HDMI cable, and have been using it like this with no problem for a good amount of time. Very recently I tried to start up a new game I had bought on Steam and I was automatically met with problems. I would either get an Unreal Engine error submission screen, or I would hear the music to the game along with my cursor changing to that of the game. Also, I would still see the steam page/desktop on my screen but could not click on anything. It was as if the game was open but the window was see-through.

Now on to how I am able to fix it. After messing with this thing for an hour or so while it was still hooked up via the HDMI cable I got frustrated and unplugged everything to just use the laptop directly. As soon as I did that everything worked. My initial thinking was that something was wrong with either the HDMI cable or the HDMI port, but when I plugged the cable back in, everything worked again like normal. I don't think it has anything to do with the port though because I can do everything, other than gaming, while it is connected to the TV. So, I ordered a new HDMI cable. I replaced it but am still having the same problem. When this issue occurs, I find all I have to do is open my laptop lid, disconnect the cable, plug the cable back in, and then everything works again for 24-48 hours (give or take). Sometimes I only have to open the lid, but that is rare. Usually I have to do all of the things I mentioned.

I'm at my wits end with this thing and am hoping someone here has some idea as to what is happening....

Perhaps windows updated your graphics card driver, and the issue is there....
